NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Could Launch Mid-January

NVIDIA could launch its "RTX for the masses" SKU, the GeForce RTX 2060, sometime mid-January, according to Andreas Schilling. It is also confirmed that the RTX 2060 will feature 6 GB of GDDR6 memory. Schilling confirmed no other specifications of the GPU, but posted official branding for the RTX 2060 SKU. Earlier leaks pin the RTX 2060 as being carved out from the 12 nm "TU106" silicon, with 1,920 CUDA cores, 120 TMUs, 48 ROPs, and a 192-bit wide GDDR6 memory interface, which at 14 Gbps produces a memory bandwidth of 336 GB/s. NVIDIA could target the crowd that wants DXR-enabled gaming at 1080p thru 1440p resolutions.

With the 2080 running BF5 1080p Ultra @ 76fps, and a 1070 running @ 69fps, it's reasonable to assume a 1060 can hit 60fps or at least high 50's.

1440p sounds like a stretch for this card though. (unless you're ok with mid 40's fps)

Raytracing is going to have limited usefulness in the first 2-3 generations, at least.
Still, earlier and wider support accelerates adaptation and improvements. Having RTX support in 2060 can't be a bad thing, and remember, it is optional to use it.

I'm so waiting for the diddy "RT 1030" to come out so I can play around with one! I reckon it will support the full featureset too, including ray tracing, at a glacial pace. Just gotta see that. :laugh:

I won't be upgrading my main card, the GTX 1080, in a long while, I can tell you.

I agree. Chickens and eggs, gotta start somewhere. People that don't wish to invest have plenty of other options from AMD or older NVidia. The recent BF5 patch definitely shows that the devs are going to have to get it figured out for their engine. For me the game went from unplayable on certain maps to running great just from that patch. If we can start that process now I think it helps the next gen even more.

this is not the segment of the market that likes to pay extra for RT features. better get a 1070Ti/used 1080 and run higher game presets than spend money on a card that only matches the 1070 but can run low-medium RTX preset along with high game preset.

GTX 970 To this would be a weird upgrade. If you want more performance, i'd suggest something that will effect your gameplay in a much more serious way. I don't see anything below RTX 2070 \ GTX 1080 a worthy upgrade over a GTX 970

@dj-electric I know it's weird but I'm not really the type of person who would burn my wallet for the most powerful GPU when any of the parts my PC has could be a bottleneck. It's always about balance, if not, then I'll have to splurge even more just to eliminate ANY bottlenecks that could potentially ruin my experience.

It's obviously up to you how you spend your money, but I wouldn't worry about an i5-7600K being a bottleneck for any GPUs on the market right now.
What matters is the performance you "need" and the money you are willing to spend.

You weren't actually waiting for this, right? From the look of the specs this will just be a slightly faster 1060, with what may amount to a useless amount of raytracing capability.

The RTX 2080 & 2070 both had the same amount of ROP's as the previous gen's price targeted cards (1080 & 1080 Ti). This new 2060 looks like it's going to leave a sizable gap between it and the 2070, as its ROP's are similar to the 1060, not the 1070 that it should be replacing. We have no clue what the price of this card is going to be, but I suspect anywhere from $325-400.

According to [H], a highly clocked Asus 2070 was barely able to maintain playable framerates with Ray Tracing enabled on the lowest setting on 1080p. No chance in hell is a 2060 going to be able to do that.

I originally planned to get a GTX 2060, but eventually figured (even before Turing launched) that it wasn't worth waiting for.
