NVIDIA Unveils the GeForce RTX 2060 Graphics Card

NVIDIA today at its CES 2019 event launched the GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card. The card is being purported as being capable of playing "Battlefield V" at 1440p resolution with RTX on. Priced at USD $349, the top-spec variant of the RTX 2060 is capable of 5 gigarays/second, or roughly half the performance of the RTX 2080 Ti, but double the performance of its "Maxwell" based predecessor, with roughly the same performance as the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti from the previous generation, with RTX added to the mix. The RTX 2060 is slated to come out on January 15, in a number of variants, and custom-designs from NVIDIA partners.

This generation sucks. 1070ti performance for... 1070ti price. Oh except with less ram. What happened to previous gen performance being pushed down a lower tier? RTX on 2070 is awful, this will be worse. I hope AMD price/performance rumors are true.

You can make a pretty good guess. Take an RTX 2070, cut TU106 to 1920 SIMD cores, 240 Tensor cores, 30 RT Cores, 120 TMUs and 48 ROPs , cut 25% of the data bus & remove 2GB frame buffer. If RTX 2070 struggles...

Certain things are blatantly obvious and this is one of them.

Another one is that the RT performance will be abysmal anyway, so yes, this is a complete dud that should have been priced @ 250.

is that a dig at AMD's offering? because personally BF is just another BF and Anthem...ehhh, I am much more interested in the Division 2 and RE2 myself.

960 was a weak card. 1060 was $299 in FE version. That aside, $350 is definitely too much for a mid range card.
Probably the GTX version will start at $299 for FE with regular versions priced into mortal realm.

Of course we all want better prices, but... It's funny that a Vega 56 for $350~$400 is considered a great deal, but an RTX 2060 with the same performance for $350 is overpriced!

I would be curios to find out how much of the TU106 die is used, I bet it's in the 300-350 mm^2 region. It's funny , not too long ago that would have been great news because that meant it's packed full of shaders. Now, not so much.

Nvidia, breaking stereotypes. In a way they set the expectation so low for what's to come in the future it might actually work out.

And 330mm^2-ish 1080 is 700-ish. Great stuff.
And then we got "and next gen card isn't better perf/$, it's the same, but with a couple of additional twists, but we can keep old number for you to feel better".

With this approach AMD can sell vastly larger chips (Vega) and still be profitable.
And the, Q3-ish, things can get quite turbulent, if leaks Navi are even remotely true.

That's ok.
In fact, it's great.
You get what you deserve, N gets bonus for treating you, the way you deserve.
A win-win.

Why would i get an AMD card that is what, $40 cheaper, but in return you get overheating, bad game compatibility, more power draw, low quality software, a 2 year old card and of course worse performance. AMD will always be second to me, just try to accept that some people like Nvidia despite the higher prices.

If we take a $350 price point & have 3 contenders: Vega 56 8GB, GTX 1070 8GB, & RTX 2060 6GB - what would a vendor agnostic buyer choose? Tough to pass up on the RTX 2060 even if we discount DXR acceleration. I'd like to see an 8GB frame buffer at this SKU price though.

To thousands of disgruntled NVIDIA haters and AMD lovers:

The RTX 20 series sucks. It's expensive, it doesn't offer a good bang for the buck, it's not much better than Pascal, it's not that power efficient (oops, that's wrong - Turing is the most power efficient GPU architecture for the desktop), it's this and that.

Do. Not. Buy. It.

See? It's so easy. Everyone is happy. NVIDIA suddenly doesn't gouge you any longer. Wait for the next wonderful AMD architecture. Wait for the RTX 30 on 7nm.

This whining about Turing has to stop. NVIDIA doesn't force you to buy anything.

They need to receive feedback. Not buying but not complaining doesn't solve anything.
Nvidia doesn't us, but by inflating prices, it allows the competition to also charge more.
I won't silently accept this, the poll in the article is perfect
