Intel today expanded its 9th generation Core "Coffee Lake Refresh" socket LGA1151 desktop processor lineup with six new SKUs. The first of these will begin rolling out in stores toward the end of January 2019. These include the Core i5-9400 6-core/6-thread processor clocked at 2.90 GHz with 4.10 GHz Turbo Boost, and 9 MB of shared L3 cache. The company is yet to list out model names of its other five models, although these are expected to include Core i3-9350KF, Core i5-9600KF, Core i7-9700KF, and Core i9-9900KF, besides a possible Core i3-9300. The "KF" SKUs are targeted at the DIY channel and the gaming pre-built ODM market, and are expected to lack integrated graphics.

Update: Intel also revealed its Core i5-9400F processor, which has the same specifications as the i5-9400, with the exception of no iGPU. Intel's own list price for this chip is USD $182.

lack of integrated graphics should mean slightly cheaper. so basically a 9900k 5ghz 8 core 16 thread for $450 if we are lucky. then ebay site wide promo code someday to bring that down to around 375.

Maybe cheaper
Maybe better thermals
Maybe not even worth it for certain use cases where hardware acceleration is beneficial

Time will tell. I'd say something along the lines of "Oh, they wouldn't launch a product nobody will use..." but that certainly wouldn't be a first.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Its still on all dies, the iGPU, just disabled. I doubt it will be much cheaper.

9400 = 8400 with 100MHz extra base/boost clocks. So exciting I'm falling asleep, Intel...

According to Anandtech, the IGP is simply disabled, which was pretty much expected.
No real pricing as yet though.
I can see the Core i3-9350KF becoming a popular part with people looking for a more affordable, overclockable part though, assuming it's cheaper than the $182 price Anandtech is listing for the Core i5-9400F (the only part with an official price as yet).

I plan to be rocking Ryzen 3800x 4.9ghz anyway this summer. Intel can eat my shorts.

I mean, nobody in their right mind is gonna pay what Intel's asking for their chips when Ryzen offers you so much more for so much less cash - except of course the streamers and hArDc0re gamerzzz who really need that extra 1FPS. I'm not sure about 4.9GHz though.

kf might have worse thermals, less contact area between ihs and die, unless they are just disabling faulty igps

Keeping the hyper-threading as a premium feature is annoying.
Even if 4c/8t is enough, there is no choice :(
Refreshed, soldered 6c/12t would also be sufficient for most people.

Sorry what?

The IGP has an inflated value on the lower end chips because it is what enables streaming certain games on the low core/thread count chips...

The only KFs that really make any sense are the 8 core ones which have enough cores to get through both high end gaming and encoding loads simultaneously.
