Seriously awaiting single slot water blocks for this card. Would've really liked a shorter PCB, but this still could be my first small form factor build in alooooong time

Lets see Alphacool pull this off

I still can't fathom Nvidia's insistence on having 2-slot I/O. Even if my case has room for two slots, I really like that my EK water block makes it single-slot :)

Dunno either, they look clunky with a sleek block on. I've seen people cut off the extra connectors, but it's a pain and I wouldn't want to obviously void the warranty on those...

Lets see Alphacool pull this off

I've been eyeing the EK Taichi x470 full cover block, but haven't pulled the trigger because honestly the VRMs are so overdone on that motherboard they just don't heat up even running an OC'd 2700x 100% 24/7 so it would be more for show.

However... a R7 block would definitely change build path...

Later on this year a 16 core Ryzen on water with a micro-atx...

I think *finally* new exciting hardware just makes me want to do a new build on water again... :)

Let's see alphacool make a mess of it more like.

EK, Waterchill and others already do it with other cards. I have EK singlew slot cards on my V64s after having to take off the alphacool crap. Yes I am biased after having nothing but bad luck/experience with AC except for their radiators. There support is terrible too.

Also Can we please stop calling it vega II? I understand that is what it looks like but AMD clearly stated its Radeon 7 not labeled as Vega 2. I don't really care but it would be nice to represent the card as what it actually is called.
Who called it Vega 2? All I see is “VII”, which is the Roman numeral 7.

Go in the bios and change it to 1800mhz? XD 50mhz difference from what was stated is not gonna make a lot of difference right now without performance to see.
We need to see how it goes with the drivers that are goin to be released at launch .

Well alli can say is if it is faster by 29% (as per AMD) than a Vega 64 it would be in the 1080TI range and if I remember reviews the 2080 is not much faster

Alphacool is crap? I can only speak for myself when I say that Alphacool is a great company for Water cooling. I have the Eisbaer 420 paired with some Noctua fans and my CPU idles at 27 C. The kicker is that I have expanded the loop to include one of my Vega 64s and it does a better job than the 3 fan, 3 slot monstrosity that is the cooler on the Sapphire Nitro+ I am talking high 50s under load vs high 70s. That and the fact that I could not get the fans to spin under 50C inspired me to find a Water block on Ali Express since EK, Waterchill and others only seem to care about Nvidia cards so we only got blocks for reference cards on Vega from them.

Was anyone able to verify the card was actually running at 1800 MHz at CES? 1750 MHz rounds to 1.8 GHz...

1.8 GHz could also be binned chips that Sapphire isn't getting shipments of. Maybe Sapphire manufactured the reference cards and these are the left overs?

My guess on the matter is like it is on Vega, the clocks are might be set to 1800Mhz Boost in the bios, but they only rate the card for 1750Mhz to account for the stock cooling.
Unlike nVidia cards where the Boost clocks usually exceeds the value set in bios, AMD cards generally do not reach the boost clocks set in bios out of the box.

Same here. I was going to grab an RTX card but all the good ones seem to be closer to 800. and I am terrified of the space invaders, I guess I am just paranoid like that. I wanna see how good it holds boost clocks, I think if we can tweak it to hold max boost clocks it might be faster then benchmarks like vega. Also I hope that HBM2 an be pushed another 100-200mhz. On top I want division 2 anyways.

You know there's warranty on those space invaders, yes? Regardless, sound choice IMO. RTX is a dead end for this and probably the next gen, at least.

I mean lots of vega 56s and 64s could overclock past 1600 MHz (56 requires a 64 bios flash), but the VII should pull much less power at the same clocks. The first gen Vegas are capable of hitting those clocks, but at high power draws.

My 56 pulse does 1623 on 56 bios @ 254W. 1600 @ 202W.

Look closer.
...and also features the Vega II logo.
Anywho. I don't know what the big deal is. It is Vega 2(or Vega 20 or whatever...who cares?). And if AMD didn't want people calling it that they wouldn't have dubbed it VII. It's what's called a double entendre people(google it). Which I'm sure was intentional.
Go in the bios and change it to 1800mhz?
Yeah...not happening. The days of modding your VBIOS are dead and gone my friend. At least with AMD you can do the SoftPowerPlay mod to the same effect though. ;)

Yea true. But I like the peace of mind lol. Hate doing RMAs. I would rather go AMD for now.

Read the article. Clearly says Vega II at the end. Wasn't talking about the box, its how they reported it in the article.

The reason I suggest Alphacool is their AIB support.

The highest binned ones can go way over 1600 (~1670-1700), and I did mention that the Radeon VII can do it at much lower energy consumption.

I still can't fathom Nvidia's insistence on having 2-slot I/O. Even if my case has room for two slots, I really like that my EK water block makes it single-slot :)

With a full node shrink between the two, that's a pretty low bar. 40% lower power at equal performance isn't unheard of across a full node shrink, which even accounting for the extra power draw of two more stacks of HBM2 would mean running ~1500MHz at ~180-200W if extrapolating from the V64. I suppose that tells us something of how far up the power/perf curve they're pushing this, just like V56 and 64.
I’d like to estimate that the VII can do 1850-1950 on the same cooling conditions and same voltage as a highly binned V64. Not to mention there should be better yields with the VII over the V64
