AMD doesn't have a competing CPU forthis use case.
Smaller ZBOX Pro have a frugal and cheap Celeron.
Big ZBOX has a 7700T (35W). AMD starts at 65W for desktops. Below there's just the 2500U (25W) but it's slower than that i7.

You could use a 2700u at 25W tdp (boost will be higher actual consumption but ok perf increase) and it's not even close to a contest. Laptop scores are running at 15W tdp a lot of times after thermal throttling quickly. Enough cooling to allow it to run max boost (or at least close to it) would be perfect. Double the threads at almost the same power consumption. And you get a GPU that won't suck for the applications listed.

Enough of the quad core junk, especially when the clocks aren't even good.

Well there is Ryzen 7 3750H 35W part, which should fit that perfectly. Though I'm not expecting them really use that on those higher end zbox pros, they have discrete nvidia quadro gpu in side. And I'm yet to see any Ryzen laptop/mini pc with amd Ryzen CPU/nvidia dGPU.

I may not fully understand the "not even close to a contest" part...
7700T is faster than the 2700U and the gap in single-thread performance is fairly huge.

Double the threads at almost the same power consumption. And you get a GPU that won't suck for the applications listed.

2700U is a 4C/8T CPU just like 7700T. Just slower.

True. 3750H performance is what we're looking for. It's just a question of AMD releasing a PRO variant. We'll see.
