Despite the controversy, review bombing, and overall reaction/counter reaction routine on the whole Metro Exodus and its EPIC Games Store exclusivity, the game is shaping up to be one of the hottest releases of 2019. With 4A Games' experience and ability as a developer having already been proven with their original Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light games, the controversy doesn't really matter: the game is expected to be a good one.

And as it stands, 4A Games is doing what it can to open up the lore and world of Metro to the highest number of people possible. As a part of that effort, they have released a brand new CGI cinematic for Metro: Exodus. Titled Artyom's Nightmare, this is a 4-minute long cinematic that showcases the beauty of pre-rendered graphics, the depth and scale of lore drenching the frames of this cutscene, and the games' mood. Even though CGI movies have fallen significantly in use, with most developers choosing the in-engine rendering mechanic, I'd argue that these story explorations are the bread and butter for today's CGI landscape, offering the most compelling atmosphere and image quality for story and content absorption, whilst avoiding the "reality check" of jumping from in-engine to CGI cutscenes (even though in-engine scenes are fast becoming virtually indistinguishable from actual CGI).

Still hyped... still likely to be one of the best shooters coming out this year and, if Cyberpunk isn't coming probably also the best single player game for 2019.

Funny... 4A is having a nightmare right now.

Doubtful. They can always adjust... I'm very curious to see how it all plays out in the end :)

Fantastic video, I agree @Ravenlord
4A is an incredible studio. Unfortunately their publisher axed a lot of potential business by not allowing the game on any other platform other than on the Epic store. Hard to make up potentially lost sales in their first year just because they get a slightly higher percentage of the development cost by hosting it on a different digital distribution platform. As soon as it is available on either GOG or Steam after the 1 year exclusive, it will be in my library.

4A aren’t the bad guys. Do people really not understand how little control studios that are under publishers have on release decisions, including dates?

True. Koch Media and Deep Silver are the ones that made the decision to do a timed exclusive release on the Epic Store. 4A Games had no say in the matter. That was why one of the employees working at 4A made those tweets about the next Metro game may not come to PC at all if people kept Review Bombing past Metro games on Steam. His feelings were hurt that people were doing this when he had worked so hard to make Exodus a great game and a decision was made by the Publisher to make it an Epic Store exclusive which was completely out of 4A Game's hands.

In any case 4A quickly stepped in and issued the statement that the employee didn't represent what 4A thought but I think there are still plenty of people angry at 4A right now for no reason at all.

Man I'm going to have to download the stupid epic game store. Bah.

It will come to Steam after the timed exclusive on Epic if you don't mind waiting.

Preordered already, voting with wallet.
Epic applet is a little launcher, for now....
Like any launcher from Steam to Ubi, I only start it when I play and exit it once finished, quite a paranoia anyway.

I know gameplay is top priority, but as it was promoted as a graphical masterpiece, the texture quality doesn't look anything special to me in the 4K walkhrough trailer from 8 months ago.

I do like the snowy remote Russian setting, which is lacking, but it is with the post-apocalyptic theme. My cherry pick is the industrial semi-abandoned and abandoned-overgrown setting without being necessairly post-apocalyptic, without the zombies and radiation and gas and stuff, even tho it's based on the legendary sniper mission from COD4 from nuclear Pripyat.

Imagine Metro 1995: Crimean Redux

Skip to minute 3:00 for that scene.
