QNAP Systems, Inc. today unveiled the new dual-port 25GbE QXG-25G2SF-CX4 and 10GbE QXG-10G2SF-CX4 network NICs. Featuring Mellanox ConnectX -4 Lx SmartNIC controllers, these cards can greatly boost file transfer speeds and also support iSER (iSCSI Extension for RDMA) to optimize VMware virtualization. Both cards are PCIe Gen3 ×8 and can be installed in a Windows /Linux PC or compatible QNAP NAS.

Cloud, big data, high-speed storage, virtualization, and AI are strongly pushing 25GbE into the mainstream," said Dan Lin, Product Manager of QNAP, adding "QNAP now provides users with a scalable solution for adopting 25GbE infrastructure by leveraging the industry-leading Mellanox Ethernet solution to deliver a next-gen 25GbE NIC for NAS, servers and workstations."

The QXG-25G2SF-CX4 and QXG-10G2SF-CX4 provide flexible 25GbE and 10GbE connectivity and iSER support to meet today's high-speed requirements. When used with high-performance NAS (such as the TS-x83XU, TVS-x72XU, or TS-x77XU) users can benefit from lightning-fast throughput for massive data transmission, fast backup/restoration, maximized SSD-based applications, and optimal VMware performance.

The QXG-25G2SF-CX4 and QXG-10G2SF-CX4 can work with server-grade PCs to speed up workflows in offices and homes. Users can download Windows and Linux drivers from Mellanox. QTS 4.3.6 (or later) is required to use the QXG-25G2SF-CX4/ QXG-10G2SF-CX4 with a QNAP NAS.

Key specifications
  • QXG-25G2SF-CX4: Dual-port 25GbE SFP28 network expansion card
  • QXG-10G2SF-CX4: Dual-port 10GbE SFP+ network expansion card
Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx controller; PCI Express Gen3 x8, low-profile, full-height and specialized brackets (for designated QNAP NAS) included in the package.

Availability
The QXG-25G2SF-CX4 and QXG-10G2SF-CX4 are now available for purchase from the QNAP Accessories Store.

Surprisingly affordable, £228+VAT for the 25Gbps card - https://www.span.com/product/Qnap-2...ual-Port-SFP+-PCI-Express-Mellanox-CX4-~69086
The 10Gbps card is £206+VAT - https://www.span.com/product/Qnap-1...ual-Port-SFP+-PCI-Express-Mellanox-CX4-~69087

Not sure who would get the 25Gbps card though, as I don't think the kind of companies that run those kind of networks would invest in QNAP hardware...

Mellanox is a reputed brand, this card implements Mellanox PHY, so they could still buy it.

Worth noting that QNAP/Synology branded Mellanox cards usually cost a lot more than the standard Mellanox card they are based on (which will also be plug and play in a compatible NAS).

I guess this card does not come pre-equiped with the mandatory 25Gb SFP28 modules, does it ?

That's because there are multiple options for connecting including direct attach copper cables if you don't want optics. How should they know what technology you want to use?
