Glad it will be available on Steam. Sure hope we have a way to get Halo 5 eventually.

Hey guys side question as I saw the notes earlier in the thread about an XBOX LIVE account - can someone fill me in on that? Is that something you have to pay for? If that's the case I'll have to pass on it.

My professional Halo career starts the day Reach is released!

They will be releasing the games in chronological order starting with Reach.

And what's the deal with xbox live accounts - is that something you have to pay for or just free kinda like Uplay?

It sounds like we will have to pay for Xbox Live for multiplayer, I think. Which is super shitty. But I dont think 343 or Microsoft has made an official comment on it, but its definitely being talked about among the community

EDIT: Nevermind, you just need an xbox live account, but dont need to pay for the gold subscription to play.

For what has been explained thus far, it seems likely that they will be released altogether as a collection.

No, i just read they will be released separately with Reach being first
The PC version of Halo: MCC will come in stages, with each game released individually, in chronological order, rather than all of them together in one big bundle. That means Halo: Reach will be first, followed by Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4. 343 Industries said that staggered scheduled will enable it to ensure that each game is "right"—emphasis theirs—with PC-standard features including FOV sliders, 4K resolution and ultrawide monitor support, adjustable framerates, and remappable keys. Beyond their initial launch, the games will "evolve and grow over time with community input," Microsoft said.

Im going to need a 144hz monitor real soon for this.

When that comes from Microsoft, it can be believed. The Steam page states that all of those games will be a part of the collection, which directly implies that all will be available at the same time.

Note To Microsoft;
There is a rumor floating around that you are considering a GOG release but for a higher price than the Steam/Windows Store version. Speaking for myself, I'm perfectly ok with that. I'd happily pay a higher price to avoid DRM. Bring it! Let me and others throw our money at you! While this seems like a very remote possibility, should you do so, you will have an instant fan base! And while you're at it, do a release of the Halo Wars RTS games, I'd buy those too!

MCC FOR PC

Later this year, these classic Halo experiences will start to arrive on PC via the Microsoft Store and, for the first time in the series - on Steam. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us to bring the Halo Universe and Master Chief’s story to a new audience and to offer PC gamers a chance to step into the franchise on the PC platform of their choice.

The Master Chief’s arrival on PC will happen in stages with each title releasing one by one over time - giving the development teams the ability to ensure each one is right, while giving players a chance to jump in right away, rather than having to wait for the entire suite of games to be completed. Our current plan is for this journey to begin with the launch of Halo: Reach – the fictional beginnings of Master Chief’s saga – with the rest of the titles following in chronological order thereafter. Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4 will each be available for individual purchase within MCC as they become available. And each game will evolve and grow over time with community input.

For the team at 343 Industries, the most important and critical element of this project is ensuring that MCC delivers a true “first class” experience on PC. We’re embarking on a journey with our community to build a real PC experience that delivers on PC gamer expectations. The team is passionately committed to ensuring that all the features, bells, and whistles expected in a modern PC title are included with MCC. These features may vary somewhat by title, and we won’t get everything in there all at once – this is a product and an experience that will grow and evolve over time. We are laying the groundwork for PC native features such as excellent mouse and keyboard controls, support for multiple resolutions and aspect ratios, field-of-view sliders, and adjustable framerates, to name but a few. And yes, there will be support for Xbox gamepads and other PC controllers.

So according to the Steam page, while you can buy it on Steam, you still need an XBox Live account to play it. So far, gonna have to pass. Microsoft, this is not the way to go.
Why? Xbox is even built into Windows 10. Why does it matter so much?

That's straight from the halo way point site, aka straight from 343/Microsoft. The Steam page is incomplete.

I am very passionately against DRM in all forms. I'm willing to tolerate some forms of it, like CDKeys, but not online presence and activation schemes.

It needs an XBOX ACCOUNT but you dont need to pay for Xbox live. Xbox Live is most likely just going to keep track of your game stats like it normally does on the console. Again, you do NOT need to pay for it to play Halo. If you are on Windows 10, you have the Xbox app installed by default anyway.

Thanks very much for the informative response!

Also adding in here, it looks like Steam has a store page up for this now, so just FYI for anyone who was looking to join discussions on the Steam messageboards. I give the developers / publishers a lot of credit for launching on Steam. That's called good customer service / good PR.

People tend to give Steam a pass because it offers a lot but really Steam is the largest DRM the gaming world has ever seen.

Better than the drm in Assassin's Creed Origins that kills performance

If it requires a persistent online presence and XBox Live account for the single player, yes I'd give it a pass. If not, then I'd be ok with the Steam version.
