It seems that the EPIC Game Store exclusivity saga is still coming strong, with not one, but two AA games coming to PC that are exclusive to the new games distribution platform. Obsidian's The Outer Worlds is likely one of the most anticipated RPG games this side of Fallout 76, and Remedy has always been known for great single-player games that push the boundaries of the medium - and sometimes wreck those boundaries completely, as it happened with Quantum Break.

Now, both games are known to be part of EPIC's Game Store in a time-limited exclusive format for one year after launch, much like has happened with Metro Exodus - though here there is no sudden Steam departure to be met with. The Outer Worlds will also be available in Microsoft Store, true (Obsidian is now part of Microsoft's Game Studios, remember?).

Epic has pretty much declared war on Steam and it doesn't look like they will stop pulling in exclusives to their store and denying Steam the initial sales. I read a little while ago that Metro Exodus has sold 2.5 times more copies on the Epic Store than Last Light sold on Steam.

No more easy money for Valve I guess. Valve may even get so desperate that they have to go back to developing games again. :)

I actually prefer the Microsoft Store to EGS for whatever doesn't have a Linux version, but whatever at this point... My Monthly Humble Bundles are keeping me plenty busy.

Looks like I'll be buying from the Microsoft Store, but if this keeps on it looks like I will have to create an Epic account.

I saw that on PC Gamer, but they didn't say if they broke the sale numbers down.

Actually two of Obsidian’s impending releases not just The Outer Worlds.

Also all of Quantic Dreams’ games as well, no longer PS4 only.

You know, if Epic provided a worthwhile alternative to Steam, rather than trying to strongarm everyone onto their platform, it would probably be doing better.

Such a shame that this happened to one of the few games that caught my attention this year.

At least CP2077 will be coming out on GOG, which is a worthwhile alternative to Steam.

It seems Valve got so complacent I don’t think they realized the games business is still a war zone. Epic is reminding them though. Maybe this will finally wake Gabe up.

Epic does have plans to improve their store this year with specific time frames. We can watch and see if they meet those goals.

I remember when Epic announced their store that they said that they planned to make a store that would rival Steam. I thought it was BS at the time but we'll see what happens this year.

This. Steam's overall offering has steadily degraded in quality. High profile titles are increasingly exclusive to publisher specific stores, this trend has been going for a while now. Epic is kicking the door wide open as the first non-publisher specific alternative. (Yes, there is GOG, but it really has its own slice of market)

And yes, I get it, its inferior still to Steam. Patience... Competition means improvement is inevitable.

It will be pretty ironic to conclude that Epic caused a HL3 confirmed in the end :fear:

Makes me hesitant to purchase any new titles on PC. I don't want to be forced off my Steam library and install ANOTHER launcher for one-year exclusives, I can wait.

Plus with the recent reports of Epic launcher snooping around on people's systems and them canceling all their titles besides Fortnite support makes me think they're no better than Valve and will make the same mistakes in time.

PC gaming is dying...

ofcourse not, apparently it's big enough for multiple store's to compete with each other. Tough competing with exclusives is something i'm not a fan of (It does seem to work out for them though)

You're all correct that other programs do the same and competition is good, and I was exaggerating that PC gaming is dying (I should have left the /s), but I don't see any of this as a plus other than maybe forcing Steam to make some much needed changes.

I personally prefer that everything would be available everywhere and let the consumer decide but this is not a battle over what the consumer wants. Maybe I'm just bitter but they say that happens more with age lol

I hear everyone say all the time that competition is good. Here it is. Forced or not, competition will bring change.

My Steam wishlist is falling like dominoes. Another game I really wanted is The Sinking City, and it was announced today as Epic exclusive when it releases June 27th.
