Ah, that common misconception again.
Markets work the way they're supposed to. The thing is, going by the book, in an oligopoly situation they're not expected to work in favor of the consumer. The players will do exactly what DRAM have done time and again: agree not to upset each other.
That's why the regulator is supposed to either prevent the formation of an oligopoly (not possible in this case, because of the exorbitant cost of entry) or keep those players on a short leash.

Hence the collective failure of all "free market" forces, free market as far as I'm concerned is just a popular euphemism for - open season where megacorps keep making money by spending more $ (lobbying?) such that they're in compliance with every law or rule-book that the govt has made for them. Of the rich, for the rich, by the rich!

Same here. I wouldn't mind dredging a few more 'flops from moving to 2133 instead of my 1866, but the DDR3 prices aren't really down low enough to make it worth it. I'll sit a bit longer :)

Well it depends on how much lower it can get. In case we get double the amount for the same money later this month then it is stupid to upgrade, I want 32GB at 99$ or nothing. Also 9400F 6-core at 99$, 1TB NVMe the same, and a gift H310 mobo to go with that.

Would love to get 16GB of 3466/3600 CL17-CL18 Samsung B-die kit for my next build, sadly those are still up in the sky somewhere. Heck even 3200CL14 B-die memory is almost twice as expensive E-die of Hynix AFR...

I never pay more than $20 a stick for any kind of RAM. No matter what manufacturers claim, they always end up pursuing volume sales. Walmart make huge profits every year despite selling everything cheap. This works for RAM as well. RAM prices always go in cycles. Back at the end of the DDR3 days i was getting 4GB sticks of DDR3 RAM for as low as $15. The 8GB sticks bottomed out $25 a stick but i only ever bought 2 for my laptop. I never saw the need for more than 16GB of RAM for a single computer. I also got 4x 2GB sticks for $30. My point is that if you are patient you can save a fortune on RAM. I am old enough to remember when DDR1 and DDR2 prices bottomed out. Also do not save your DDR3 ram for much longer. There are still idiots out there trying to sell 1GB DDR2 RAM sticks for $40! I am pretty sure no one needs/wants DDR2 RAM these days but perhaps they will valuable to an antiques dealer a hundred years from now. If you are curious what kind of RAM i got and exactly how much i paid check out the pictures of my orders from newegg.

HEDT builders also have reason to cheer, as 32 GB quad-channel (4x 8 GB) kits start for as little as $150, and premium kits with DDR4-3000 frequency can be had for as little as $184.

Almost there but still no cigar.

What do you mean? In 2016 I paid right about what BTA put here, $186 for a 32gb 4x8Gb DDR4-3000 kit.

you should eventually see that price come down to $80.

I am betting if the Ryzen release gets close to equaling it's hype the prices will stop falling and possibly increase within maybe a couple of months.
CPU releases only cause top tier RAM to go in price because people (mostly gamers) want to get maximum performance out of their new build. THis can actual reduce demand for slower sticks and thus lower prices.

I paid just over that, about $190 for my 32Gb Gskill DDR3 in 2013. A little high, but I was tickled. Thinking about setting a daily alert on DDR4 just to catch it bottoming, and snagging 32Gb to have when I finally get around to upgrading lol

Guess I'm looking at the wrong kits? Barely been any price drop on performance 32gb kits from their all time high. Maybe down to 350-450 from 375 to 475?

Too bad CL14 RAM is still up there in price, sure you can get CL16 stuff pretty cheap but CL14 is a different story. This is especially so if you want DDR4-3200 (PC4-25600) 2x8GB kits.

For example... G.SKILL FlareX Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 (PC4-25600) F4-3200C14D-16GFX Still priced at $175.
The really fast RAM never comes down in price until something faster comes along. People who care about having the fastest stuff are always overpaying and retailers know they are easy marks.

Those are the exact sticks I bought last week, two sets and then the other day ordered another set.
Right now it's a good price for those and (Hopefully) get cheaper.

Lol, 200$ here for 32gb 2400CL17 kit. What premium for 190 are u talking about? Premium 3200CL14 kit costs like 450$, top-notch 16gb kits over4000mhz with low latency 450$ aswell.
Lol you can get 32gb of 4400C19 for $400.
