While it's true he was never in the armed forces, it is not true that he doesn't understand them. He has stated and shown he has great respect for the armed forces and holds them in great esteem.
Sorry, but not true at all. His
public comments about McCain not being a hero because he was captured was abhorrent, disgraceful and unforgivable. McCain was shot down and severely injured when he was captured. He was not a deserter who ran towards the enemy. As a POW he was regularly tortured. Never received proper medical attention and yet he survived for over 5 years. He even
refused release until his fellow POWs were released.
And of course, McCain was a republican too. But my point is not about defending McCain. Anyone who survived Hanoi Hilton is a hero in my book.
Trump
publicly criticized the military many times, even claiming to be smarter than his generals. He said “I’m the only person in the history of our country that could really decimate ISIS,”
He disrespected Gold Star families.
He does not understand the military because he has not taken the time to try because he already believes he is smarter than all of them.
He has on many occasions
publicly bashed several 4-Star generals. That is NOT being respectful at all. He does not hold them in great esteem at all. In fact, He does, however, hold Putin in great esteem.
