Baldur's gate 3, the sequel to one of gaming's iconic franchises, has just been announced. The game is being developed by Larian Studios, developers of the extremely-well received Divinity series, and will carry on with the lore of the series. The RPG game promises high-stakes decisions and forking branch decisions, where player's agency in the world is reflected and potentiated by writing and mechanics.

larian Studios have flung themselves deep into this sort of game before, since Divinity II: Original Sin was extrmeely well received in the world of RPGs. However, the studio has to carry over an expectation of excellence for the saga, and they consider this to be their most ambitious project ever. Baldur's Gate has has a troubling few years on its belt, with ideas and planned sequels livening up before crashing down before or after development started. The game has already been in production for two years, and now Larian Studios have announced they have their full studio grunt toiling to bring their Baldur's Gate vision to fruition. It's being developed for a single-player experience, but can also be experienced - with no reduction in quality of immersion - cooperatively. Look after the break for the announcement trailer, towards the Forgotten Realms that aren't, after all.

I'd play this game. I remember previous releases and they were so damn awesome :) I only hope developer will put a lot of effort in this one as well.

Why not release it on both and any other game store?

Curious, how or what wrong has Valve done to you to bring you to curse them? I'm really interested in the reasoning behind such an irrational comment.

Simple. DRM. Another good reason is the fact that all of the other of the series games are on GOG and it would be nice to complete the set.

Try living with Steam offline with only occasional metered connections. If they fix that it'd be alright, or if theymade it a rule that you could play the games without steam running in the background. Some games do this, with others you can't, and if you don't kill every steam process when connecting to theinternet (even if steam is in offline mode) it has a nasty habit of not launching (after a reboot, say) until you go online. Also games has a tendency to ignore the "Only update on launch" check and if you forget yourself it's easy to have 50GB of updates qued (on games that's supposed only to update on launch, mind you) on a 5GB data plan and OF COURSE the games are entirely locked down until they are actually updated. Plus you can't manually update games. With GOG you can say copy the game to a laptop, update and then copy back to the desktop. No go on Steam. I did have it on an external drive for a bit and that was perilous, what with all the permissions.

Anyway. I was oddly never a fan of Baldurs Gate.

lexluthermiester beat me to it.

The other issue I have, is that Steam has managed to insert themselves between the consumer and the game studios. In my opinion, they are just a bunch of greedy, money-grubbing middlemen.
