are they competing for 1080p 60FPS? 144FPS? 240?
What about 4k60?
Where do 'real gamers' draw the line?

Hell i just started gaming on my VR rig on my 4k TV last night with my ryzen 1400 and forgot it was at stock clocks after a BIOS update, and didnt frigging notice.

This here right here. For a proper comparision you have to play the games on computers without any knowlefge of the insides. And you should add non gamers to the mix to get proper results. Humans are biased by nature.

What is "real world gaming", is it the kind of gaming where as long as it runs smoothly it doesn't matter if the fps is just 70 instead of 80 or 90, or is it the kind of gaming where you need at least 144fps 0.1% lows?

I don't expect AMD to win but if they keep getting closer and closer, AMD looks better. Intel by try'n to call them out will just bring more attention to AMDs already solidified value position.

I just find it all silly because Intel is calling on people to challenge them

Like hiding behind a buffer in case things don't go your way.

The challenge is carefully worded to act as a smoke screen, Intel is not challenging anyone here directly. Its calling the on everyone to run naked in the street, something you wouldnt do yourself. I somehow doubt Intel could create a fair challenge and live up to it, while AMD fudges numbers to look better via press releases.

AMD have always posted much better results than what it product offers, so people are careful to base things just yet, I remember people were like this to intel back in 2006 with Conroe. I guess amd with bulldozer made people rethink what is real and what is "want it to be real". If intel is challenging amd x single thread then they know things we dont, so we have to wait for reviews before we start pointing fingers here.

Funny, back in 2006, amd wanted to overshadow intel's conroe by buying ati. This time Intel is doing the same in a different way.

AMD bought ATi because AMD knew Intel would step up in IGP.

AMD bought ATi because AMD knew Intel would step up in IGP.

The date coincides, july, july ehhe

That was the worst mistake amd ever did to some extent, amd bought ati for 6 billion and few years later amd itself was worth less than that hehe

"On July 24, 2006, a joint announcement revealed that Advanced Micro Devices would acquire ATI in a deal valued at $5.6 billion.[8] The acquisition consideration closed on October 25, 2006,[9] and included over $2 billion financed from a loan and 56 million shares of AMD stock.[10] ATI's operations became part of the AMD Graphics Product Group (GPG),[11] and ATI's CEO Dave Orton became the Executive Vice President of Visual and Media Businesses at AMD until his resignation in 2007.[12] The top-level management was reorganized with the Senior Vice President and General Manager, and the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Electronics Group, both of whom would report to the CEO of AMD.[13] On 30 August 2010, John Trikola announced that AMD would retire the ATI brand for its graphics chipsets in favor of the AMD name.[14] "

At that time nvidia ceo was afraid of intel, few years later we see that was a failed assumption intel would compete x the gpu market and amd was thinking about their amazing fusion gpu hehe which came as an apu that we know today. Anyway, mistake or not, amd survived somehow because of the gpu market, some mistakes come to be good or maybe if amd had not done that then it could have used the money to build a worthy cpu successor of their fx line. Leading a company when all the cows are fat is easy, i want to see leading a company when the cows are starving hehe, lisa has my respect.

CS:GO - The Real World Gaming ?

I bet the 7700k will win on CS:GO benchmarks vs ANY AMD CPUs now and near future

I propose they do the benchmarking in UT99.
This game, set with no FPS limit, can still overheat most of today's CPUs and GPUs.

The sole reason that AMD did not merge with NVIDIA is that Huang demanded to be the CEO of the combined company.

I laugh at this proposition from Intel. They do not have any traction in the innovation argument and can anyone who has a 7700K to a 9700K say that they have seen the performance improvements of those compared to Ryzen from 2017 vs today? This actually reminds me somewhat of the car industry before cars from Japan became popular. There was an oil crisis in the 70s at that time 1 out every 3 cars sold in North America were GM based. Then the Japanese came on the market. Most people who had North American made cars laughed at the imports especially when Hyundai released the pony. Intel like GM has been the king of the hill for over a decade and came out on top of the CPU wars of the 80s and 90s. Today AMD stands for one word for me, innovation. 8 core/16 thread CPUs for $199 that hit 4.0 GHZ then release a 6 core / 12 thread chip that can be had for under $199 with a 300 MHZ jump in clock speed. Now there is AMD news on forums everyday. Stadia, Samsung, PS5 are all for the consumer. Nvidia gives us Ray tracing (which is not new) and AMD responds that they will do it at the software level. As far as I am concerned Lisa Su should be exec of the year. It is so bad perceptively, (they cannot make enough chips to satisfy demand) for Intel that they have to resort to things like this and Cambridge Analytica debacle that happened when Ryzen was first released. Don't worry I did not forget about the 28 core CPU that was being cooled by a in home air conditioner. There are others too when AMD was surging before. I would suggest anyone who does not know read the Dell/Intel/AMD saga that Intel had to pay over 2 billion to settle.

If anyone from intel shows you 1080p or 720p benchmarks you can safely ignore their claims. I think 1080 is starting to be overtaken by 1440p for "real world gaming".
