Last price hike started with Hynix factory fire and then lasted for years.

This is ridiculous, factory's like this has live five time redundancy to prevent power outage.

Like a perfect storm, losing 6-9 Exabytes, just the right amount to stop over supply and prices from falling further.

Pricing syndicate still up and running, they take turn increase prices, last time it was Hynix, this time it was Toshiba's turn.

That's six for WD and up to nine for Toshiba, so a total of maybe as much as 15 exabytes if you read properly, so it's a lot worse than what you though.

I'm wondering how can that be that a giant factory, probably with its own dedicated power plant and where backups have backups for backups, gets seriously affected by a 13-minute power outage, and a simple guy like me fixes 2 laptops, neighbor's monitor and keeps his home server running for continuous 8 hours after a post-storm power outage, just to keep business as usual...
Indeed, it's hard to believe that facilities like this don't have multiple redundancies for a power outage.

I just love it (NOT), production should reach normal levels by mid-July from this meaning they will be backlogged with demand and it will "probrably" take them awhile to catch up as in at least into next year ("Wink-Wink" ;) ).
That to me places the average price vs demand (Between the two) to peak right before or around Christmas so......Anyone feel like doing some early holiday shopping?

Here you are boys, the one we have all been waiting for.

Not as dramatic as a fire or chemical spill, but we all knew it was coming.

But seriously, here we have the boss telling an underling to be a good little boy, and press that button on the wall over there, the one marked "Emergency Profit Protection".

the customer should not have to care about such news,
and it should brought to customers attention , only to inform them
about a specific product that should get delayed being in the market.

Toshiba or whatever company should ask its, Compenasation
from the Electric company or the state , that simple!

Just stopped rolling around laughing at such Naivety

It Sounds like you expect Prices to remain static with the impending "shortage" and for Insurance to cover loss of Profit due to lack of Production with the Company holding Prices as is.
In Reality The "Expected Shortage due to loss of Production" will cause Price rise's to the consumer.
Any insurance Payout will just add to those company Balance Sheets.

Having experienced a similar situation with 2 different companies in the recent past, I can tell you that you are 1000% correct in your statement...... prices to customers went up significantly while they were waiting for the insurance checks, which were immediatly pocketed and used to fund executive bonuses at the end of the year for "increasing profits & lowering costs".

And NO, their prices NEVA, EVA went back down to what they were before the incident occurred  :banghead: :shadedshu:

ALL major fabs, without exception, have a redundant power system, wired to a separate power relay. Either is diesel powered, wind/solar, separate grid, by design they need to have this in place.
The fact that even so they failed for more than a dozen of minutes, just makes this story so ridiculous that there is absulutelly do doubt of their bullshit. And yeah, everybody in here is right. This is just a pathetic excuse for the things to come. Absolute ZERO trust in them and their laughable excuses.

Maybe they never tested to see if they worked correctly for a power outage..... Or maybe they where turned off... Or maybe just bs like everyone is saying... I'll go with the later.....

I love how they "conveniently" have no backup generator or anything. You'll be price gouged for the next 3 years or so cause reasons and/or oopsies. I'd of rather they more blatantly lied and blamed Godzilla for the power outage. Sorry guys, but ummm yeah Godzilla came by and f*cked our sh*t up so enjoy the price gouging for the next several years.
