Advanced Micro Devices said on Thursday that even though its ATI Radeon HD 2000-series graphics chips family has experienced massive delays, the company is still positioned to deliver competitive graphics solutions to the market place. ATI, graphics product group of AMD, will concentrate on releasing DirectX 10+ graphics chips next year as well as on improving the multi-GPU technology. Unfortunately, not a lot of information is known about AMD's code-named R700 graphics product family. What was released was that the new graphics cores will support DirectX 10+ capabilities, PCI Express 2.0 interconnection, ATI Avivo HD video engine, universal video decoding (UVD), DisplayPort connector as well as ATI CrossFire multi-GPU technology. The new family of products will be produced using 55nm process technology, which is available already at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). If AMD does not delay the new graphics cards for some reason, like it always do, the new R700 family of chips may emerge in the first half of 2008.

I thought most, if not all of the delays for R6xx (and R5xx), revolved around the difficulty with integrating the DDR4 controller? That is why the intial X2900's used DDR3.

True. Back then, the Ring-Bus was a new technology so therefore they had some troubles.
For the up coming R700, they should be the guru of this implementations without any delays.
I just hope for the sake of them that they learnt their lessons (kept delaying delaying delaying) that droved them down into the shithole
I just love their technology in terms of visual quality yet, Nvidia still tried to master. But I'm somewhat disappointed with their cards. They just can't beat Nvidia in speed.
C'mon AMD!! give some life back to your GPU. Add some steriods to it if you have to, for crying out loud. Do something will ya?!!!!!!!
Do not become complacent

Yeah right! That's what they said about the R600 that it will put Nvidia cards to shame but instead, they put themselves in painfully shame
To this date, they still can't touch the Nvidia 8800 GTX/Ultra

I wouldn't be worry with Intel for a time being....they still got alot to learn and catch up as long as AMD don't get lazy or complacent

For one thing...why can't AMD just release some shit hot speedy cards once and for all in the range of 80% to 120% In that way, that will give Nvidia/Intel a real hard time to catch up

Still to this day, there has been no DX10 benchmarking. R600 is designed to be extremely efficient instead of needing so much raw horsepower, and we don't yet know how the R600 will handle DX10 compared to the G80.

Don't count your pennies yet my friend :p

actually i should go count my pennies! currently AMD is trading at 14 dollars per stock. this is a company that at it's height was trading at $50 ! perhaps i should get in now and pray they do reach their goal. btw, nice sig.

What really sucks is that ATI/AMD hasn't been able to bring a product to the market that REALLY competes, which would've brought the 8800pricing down. As it stands now, Nvidia is still on top with essentially minimal competitioning the High- and Mid-range market, raking in profits while the best ATI can do is talk about what they'll do NEXT...

It's true that there are no real benches for dx10 (or games for that matter) but the fact is that the new cards have to be dx10 compliant either way or they are immediately out of date and non-cutting edge. By that virtue, dx10 benches are irrelevent - all that matters right now is that ATI is seriously suffering.

And this is coming from an ATI devotee...

From latest reports from magazines and websites, ATIs 2900 beats the GTS (620, 320) in alot of categories save maybe one or two. Thats its competing card partner, not the gtx and ultra (which I think it one or two benchmarks from, how true it is, is anyones guess.)

This is a nice roadmap, but its like x1800, 1900 debacle it seems.

ATI just released this info because NVIDIA leaked info on the G92, nothing more nothing less.
Theres no way ATI can get infront of NVIDIA mostly cause they havent got the funds NVIDIA does since AMD is in a world of hurt lately. Besides the R700 wont be ready until the 2Q of 2008 and by then NVIDIA will do the same as the 8800series and that is to release an 9800 Ultra and still be ontop :)

people people people! it hasnt even been a year since AMD spent 5.4 billion on acquiring ATI! do you honestly think a company which already was an underdog to intel could possibly spend 5.4 billion on a graphics company and in a year be able to be top of the pack? i think not. i like AMD's roadmap. i think they have nice goals and i think that by 2010 we will see very nice products!

Meh, Intel creates multi-core cpu's and semi-specialized cpu's (think Itanium), they're no stranger to those. Now creating a totally specialized and all the shaders, that's different.

As far as getting in the range of 80-120% better than Nvidia/Intel.....that's hard as hell my friend. The reason we keep on seeing cpu speed boosts is because of falling fab sizes and increasing transistor counts. Look at Core 2, it's supposed to be 40% faster than netburst. That's going from the worst architecture Intel's made to the best one yet, but it's still a 40% improvement, no where in the area of 80-120%. 80-120% is just plain hard, no way around that, but if AMD could release something 80-120% faster....trust me they would.

This news posting is obviously just a retort to Nvidia's yesterday with the 9800. Either way I'm sure that both cards already exist in some sort of prototype engineering sample already. The way I look at it my current system is a crutch until this stuff comes out.

If this is a retort by AMD which probably has some inside information on the Green Team, then does that mean there really is a 9800GTX that is over two times as fast as the 8800Ultra

Hahaha it's going to awesome come November.

With the 3000 the 2900 will be cheaper and if the 3000 is faster or same speed as the 8800 Ultra than the prices will be going down. :)

A Real Dx10

I think the point of the story is that itll be DX10.1 compliant. Thats an advancement thatll actually be able to be seen and felt (system resources) Not something like we have today, DX9 cards that also DX10. Weve all been waiting for DX10, this is nothing but confirmation, its on its way!!! Let the developement begin!!!

Look, I do know getting 80-120% on top the competition is hard. I'm a great supporter of ATI/AMD. I always brought their products (refused Intel & Nvidia completely)
Because they are in so much troubles, I thought that would be the only option to get them back from hell. If you think about it, at the rate they are doing now, Nvidia is going to blast them off of the earth, not to mention intel.
If notice, ATI/AMD is really really good at, and that is to talk talk talk and good at blaming others for their own fucked up and yet, no real products and even if there is, there's no real performance!........ very sluggish so to speak
