NVIDIA Rushes Out GeForce Hotfix 431.68 Driver to Address Broken Mouse Pointer

NVIDIA today rushed out the GeForce Hotrix driver version 431.68 driver. Hotfix drivers are rushed out to address glaring bugs with a recent major driver release, and are usually beta (lack WHQL signatures). Version 431.68 Hotfix corrects a bug where the mouse pointer renders incorrectly after exiting a game. The rest of the Hotfix is based almost entirely on the 431.60 WHQL released earlier this week, which comes optimized for "Wolfestein: Youngblood." Grab it from the link below.

LOL at the whole “Game Ready” moniker. I completely forgot to update before playing Wolfenstein: Youngblood last night. It ran great, despite me being on 416.80 or something like that. Just like all new releases, I am always behind on those “game ready” drivers which I really feel are all BS.

Encountered this issue for a little while after driver upgrade. It did go away after a restart or two but it was really annoying. Cursor sprite was visibly messed up with pointer not pointing to the right place in my case. Exiting a Windows Store game fixed the issue for a while in my case and there was clearly dependence on multi-monitor as switching monitors sometimes fixed and sometimes worsened the issue.

Pity that we do not get many technical details about what exactly went wrong and why.

The joke's on you, because Windows pushes newer drivers on you if you don't update in a while

Probably the best way to do it anyway, since you don't additional crap to go with the driver, you don't get a cutting edge (and possibly buggy) driver and you aren't left with an ancient version either.

A perfect example is the amount of hotfixes Nvidia had to release in the past 3-4 months. I could swear every other driver release had to be hotfixed in some way or other.

I've actually had them make other games worse or even break them completely.

Best policy is probably to skip them until either a game doesn't work or performs worse than it should. That's what I do anyway. Nothing new.

I mean they aren't all bad. Sometimes they do more for new releases than the first round of dev updates. I get why they're needed sometimes. Just doesn't always work out in reality.

WHQL means it's way more unlikely for your PC to blue screen these days. So yes, it still means something, it means drivers are not using Windows APIs in "creative" or abusive ways. It doesn't mean (and never has) that Microsoft is validating the correctness of the driver's operation.

The Windows Update-provided driver uninstalled (or otherwise made unavailable) Radeon ReLive for me.

The funny thing is, both the WU driver and the one that I had installed before, they were the exact same version. So why did I get a reinstall of said driver while screwing up ReLive?

Speaking from experience, you'll get blamed for typos in those too... even if they were in the verbatim PR.

Actually they don’t get pushed on you if you have GEForce Experience running. In my book that is the single best reason to install it and let it run resident.
