Soldak Entertainment today announced Din's Legacy has been released. Din's Legacy is an action RPG with mutating characters, set in a dynamic, evolving, fantasy world for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

During the Orc Schism, the entire Orc race was violently split into Dark Orcs, Zombielords, and the Mutated. The Mutated are tainted with Orc blood, a zombie parasite, and necromancer magic. This makes people seriously mistrust and even fear them. The fact that they slowly mutate over time makes it even worse. Who is going to trust you when you grow horns overnight?


Despite all of this, the Mutated are actually more closely related to the Elves, both their behavior and physically. They want to prove this to the world, but they are facing a tremendous uphill battle.

The trickster god Din was intrigued by their chaotic mutations and burning desire to prove themselves to the world. Always in need of champions, he made a pact with the Mutated. Each volunteer would become one of his champions trying to save the world wherever Din sends them. In return, each time they die in his service he resurrects them to continue their service.

Din's Legacy, as well as the Mutated's and yours, are all in your hands! Can you be the Champion that is needed?

This is an incredibly underrated open world Indie game series. It has a bit of a learning curve and the graphics are dated as can be, but don't let that fool you, some of the things that happen in this game are absolutely amazing.

That's possibly it's weak spot. You don't really have a backstory and that is left up to you. What matters is what you do from here forward.

That being said, the game has an intense tendency to vaporize you in trapped rooms with exploding barrels. Watch out for that harsh ending.

Lol... thought I'd warn you. It takes A LOT of getting used to all the interworking game systems and it certainly isn't for everyone (RNG-fest and very dated engine) but still can be a hidden gem.

It's almost 100% replay value, heh. Pretty much every playthrough I do is different (other than the ones cut short by traps)

Reminds me a little bit of Book of Demons, where most of your skill progression also depends on random drop.

This really is another one of those games that show you what gaming really is about - exploring concepts and making them work. Din's legacy is a great example of what games need to keep doing, and proof how you can reinvent something that's been done a hundred times already. No regrets so far... !

And its not just one thing either. The way bosses get stronger as you let them sit there for a while, or get killed by them... for the first time there is actual consequence to your actions in an ARPG. It actually feels like choice and not just ticking boxes in a different order. Or the companions you choose to bring... have them all killed and town invasions will hurt a lot more... Really cool.

Can recommend this to anyone who likes ARPGs tbh

Unfortunately balance is a longstanding issue that keeps it from being in my rotation as of late as well. Still fun to pull out from time to time though.
