HP has listed new desktop consumer prebuilts that use previously unannounced hardware from AMD, namely the Radeon RX 5300 XT graphics card and the B550 chipset. B550 has been expected for a while — it's a lower-cost chipset for Ryzen 3000 "Zen 2" processors with reduced feature set. HP calls the chipset "AMD Promontory B550A" in their sheets which seems to be designed and produced by ASMedia (unlike X570, which is a fully AMD in-house design). One of the major differences between X570 and B550 is that the latter has no support for PCI-Express 4.0, which won't matter one bit in its target segment. This move not only reduces chipset cost, it also drives down the cost of motherboards significantly, as the more stringent signal integrity requirements for PCIe 4.0 won't apply here.

While we have heard rumors that AMD is working on a smaller chip for their "Navi" architecture (Navi 12 and Navi 14), it's uncertain whether RX 5300 XT is really based on Navi, or whether it will be yet another rebrand — we wouldn't be surprised if Polaris is making a comeback yet again. Both systems are listed for € 699 and € 899, with shelf availability expected for October 8th.

So either the and the 5300xt with be oem only, like the 8000 series, or they will come to retail later.
Either way, I don't expect a low end product not to be a rebrand.

Possible RX 550\60 rebrand, for sure

The date is interesting... because of reasons that can't be disclosed.

Rebrand for sure. That said, I'd like to throw out a word of caution: Trying too hard to understand the workings of tech marketing depts will land you in a straightjacket and padded cell.

When I see DDR4-2666 AND Single channel then I know, that this is again an OEM f...g with AMD so it will look bad.

Is there a list of differences between B450 and B550? Any performance improvements or just added features?

Very likely both rebranded (B450 and RX-something).

The sad part: it's really hard to imagine a target audience for these PCs. It looks like a forced launch (maybe an agreement with AMD).

What features do you expect?

X570 adds 2 major things over X470: PCIe 4.0 and USB 3.2.
B550 is PCIe 3.0 and both PCs shown don't offer USB 3.2.

I hope this isn't a rebrand situation, AMD has some good cards out with the 5xxx branding and I think they would kind of ruin it by using it for anything but Navi chips. Especially with Navi performing better in DX11 games. It would be easier to just make a clean break from the old architectures and keep RX 600 around for Rebrandeons.

But what's the point of wasting precious 7nm on such a low-end GPU?

This is very likely an RX560 replacement. RX560 is an acceptable entry-level gaming chip and fits in PCIe's 75W power budget.
There's really no reason to go Navi in this segment.

What if we said things like this about Nvidia's low end cards? That they should just use Maxwell since there's no point in using the best tech. Clearly AMD is going to have some scavenged chips with more failures in stream processors than what the 5700 allows. That would be pretty fertile land to cut out a lower chip in the meantime. And it would therefore not be a waste of the chips as they're probably unusable right now anyway.

7 nm allowed AMD to create chips that finally are as power efficient as Nvidia. If they put out a low end chip that performs notably worse at the same TDP now, and in the 5xxx line, it's going to cheapen the new line and probably do nothing for the desirability of the rebranded chip.

I am so sick of AMD rebrands. They finally have good tech and process and people like you just want more and more rebrands to "save money." AMD should just stick to 600 series for their rebrand crap and leave the new product line for the new technology.

Nvidia has a relatively unlimited supply of 14nm.
When AMD gets this level of comfort with 7nm availability, they'll make even the crappiest GPUs and CPUs on this node. And Zen I/O dies. And maybe even chipsets.
But before that happens, there's really no point.

EVEN IF 5300 was a 75W Navi, how much better could it be? 30% faster? That's still way behind RX570. It would still be a basic 1080p gaming card - just with higher quality settings.

Nvidia regularly updates their *50 designs, because that's one of their most important products. They sell millions of these chips for both desktops and mobile.

There's likely a reason why this chip is called 5300.
If AMD plans 3 GPUs between this and the 5700 (they would replace RX570, RX580 and Vega 56), they'll have no problem with utilizing sub-par Navi dies.

Nvidia was selling 700 series cards that were Fermi.

Thsi is typical for low end, they dont get the new features/tech, they never have. Once you get to this level, the buyers are just looking for a cheap way to get a dedicated card, either for multi monitor or because they dont know how to research GPUs.

Scavanged xt 5700 GPUs are sold as 5700s. Anything below that is likely not going to scale that low, and would be a waste of silicon. Take fermi: The 580 was scavenged as a 570 or 560ti 448 edition, but the 560ti was its own GPU, and the 560 and 560se were scavanges. The 550ti was its own GPU.

Native USB 3.2 Gen2 aka USB 3.1 aka USB 10 Gbit/s.
So far there isn't a single board offering real 3.2 (20 Gb/s) that I know of.
I hate this naming mess

I could imagine that B550 is similar to B450 but with more lanes and upgraded to PCIe 3.0.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
Given the high demand on TSMC's 7nm causing supply constraint, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that these low-end chips are on cheaper, more readily-available 14LPP process from Samsung/GloFo.

Rolling out Navi Architecture is important to AMD, so I have some faith that they're not just rebrands. 14nm is cheap and available.

Rumors have been that Navi 12 is 5600-series'ish and Navi 14 is 5500'ish, both on 7nm, but again, that's based on little meaningful evidence, and guessing at the mindset of a marketing dept (clown circus).

Still, I'd be surprised if a bottom-end 5300 OEM card were anything other than a rebrand.
