Valve Offices Burgled, Thief Does Away with $40,000 Worth Equipment and Games

A man broke into the offices of Valve Software in September, and did away with $40,000 worth equipment and game keys. He was caught on camera trying to sell these keys at a Game Stop store. 32-year-old Shawn Shaputis already had six warrants for his arrest out on him when he broke into the Bellevue WA offices of one of the world's largest game distribution companies. The suspect is still at large, and is summoned to appear before court. Should he fail to show up, additional warrants for arrest will be put out. Valve Software owns Steam, the world's largest online game distribution platform.

Well, it's a good thing they were able to identify their suspect. But they weren't able to apprehend him, which, of course, is what counts in the end. But identifying him, is of course, a first step that helps in doing that.

I'm glad this guy got caught finally. Hopefully he didn't steal anything that isn't easily replaceable. I have to wonder why he was able to return and steal over and over. You'd think they'd hire a guard or get better locks/security systems after the first time.

I really am surprised we don't have facial recognition cameras in every major city in this country yet. It would be super easy to catch a guy like this then.

May I ask what are the arguments against facial cameras? I mean from the way I see it, they would protect innocent people, because you could timestamp peoples locations better, etc, be harder to frame someone, etc.

I just don't buy this argument really, for one thing you would need hacking skills, another, there will be 500 million people to pick from... also all of the passwords, socials, addresses of like 300 million are on the dark web already from data breaches at various companies.

Cameras would catch a lot of criminals and also help insurance companies figure out the truth for many various things, protecting those who pay into insurance, while at the same time hurting scammers or violent people.
