AOC today launched the AG273QX, a flat panel gaming monitor (meaning there is no curve, which makes sense due to the usual 16:9 aspect ratio). The AG273QX sports a 27" diagonal with a VA panel, sporting a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a 165 Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate is mated with support for AMD's FreeSync 2, which makes an appearance due to this monitor also being HDR capable - though at the lowest end of the spectrum, with its HDR 400 certification. With its 1 ms response time, this monitor seems to have all the claims to fame. Sadly, it only sticks to the Adobe sRGB color space with 99% coverage - no DCIP-3 here.

FreeSync 2 HDR means this monitor supports low-latency HDR tone mapping, and LFC (Low Framerate Compensation). AOC are pushing this as a 3-side frameless design, which means that the display should go all the way towards the bezels. If you want to carry this monitor to LAN parties, there's a carrying handle, and the monitor also sports double headset holders in the design. There's an RGB lighting ring on the back of the panel. Connectivity-wise this monitor sports a 4x USB 3.0 HUB, 1x Headphone out, and video inputs are taken care of by 1x VGA, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, and  1x HDMI 2.0. The AOC AGON AG273QX will be available in November 2019 at an MSRP of £439 / €489.

Reading this review now, it does look very good. https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_32gk850g.htm
That AOC is probably the same panel but not with an LG backlight. And the backlight is clearly the thing that makes it stand it out in the review. Very low black point, zero bleed or clouding, darker corners (tends to be the opposite, or a slight tone shift in corners - this one has none of it)... the full contrast ratio measured (2950 or sth) and high peak brightness. Me likey.

Except for this, but if you can lock refresh to 120, all is well

"On the 32GK850G the response times (even if we ignore the few slow black transitions for now) were not quite fast enough to keep up with 144Hz or 165Hz refresh rates, and you get a little added smearing in practice if you use the screen at those settings. We felt 120Hz (needing <8.33ms) was a better balance and provided the optimal experience. "

Something to look at when one gets that AOC. Its not the fastest panel out there, even for VAs.

And no strobe... :( Real shame because it also counters smearing for a fair bit.

Looking forward to reviews of this. Price looks very appealing.

It'd be nice if that LG had a 27', FreeSync variant.

yeah 32" 1440p is just too large of pixel density imo. i have my eye on this monitor. i love those inky blacks, it all comes down to pixel smearing for me, i don't mind a little, but i have seen some panels that are just horrible

Is curvature of any benefit for 27" monitor?

Looks interesting, but it's not IPS...
And the VGA input is a bit weird at this time and age :D

You won't avoid it with any VA. Any time you see those fat red boxes in tftcentral reviews under G2G response tables, you know what time it is.

Personally I've grown used to it. Is it noticeable, yes. Is it annoying, hardly. It actually adds a smoothing quality to moving images too, in a way. I'll take that over IPS glow, overshoot or ghosting, and low contrast any time. Smearing really is a better version of overshoot artifacts, not being a highlight but black.
