Steam may be losing some luster in the digital game distribution arena with the quantity and quality of heavy players that have appeared since its inception - I'm looking at GOG and the EPIC Games Store especially. However, Steam continues to be the service that offers the largest library of purchasable titles. As such, if you don't have a backlog of games to play already (don't lie, you do have them, but we won't judge if you buy some more), now is the time to make the jump.

The biggest discount percentage I've seen, so far, is that for Rise of the Tomb Raider, which cuts a total of 85% from its listing price. Discounts range from 20% through to that (apparent) ceiling, with franchises such as the Dark Souls Series (Dark Souls 3 for $15 (75% off), Dark Souls 2 for $9.99 (75% off), and Dark Souls Remastered going for $23.99 (40% off). The Dishonored franchise also sees massive cuts from their list prices, at 70% for the original and 75% for Dishonored 2 and its Death of the Outsider expansion (how I love these games). The Master Chief Collection, however, isn't on sale - it's still in pre order, you know how it is. But maybe one of these days you'll get that one (though it already is a steal at its launch price for the quality of games you're getting). Go on, feast your eyes and murder your wallet. We're cheering for you.

That's nice and all - for those that like Steam deals hopefully you find something good.

I won't support Steam until they fix their broken digital platform. I don't want to have the hassle of Steam crashing, games failing to launch or error out when trying to download and/or update, buttons not responding on the UI, taking up 1-2GB of RAM just sitting there and not being used and a handful of other issues.

I wonder how many people are avoiding Steam right now due to these issues and putting their money into other digital platforms such as EGS and GoG?

Is this your own experience or are you just repeating what you read somewhere? Because none of that ever happened to me. I would say it's problem on your end instead.

Im not saying steam is perfect, but the problems you are describing is not something I experience and I use steam on a daily basis :) You might be experiencing a problem specific to your hardware or your software (valve can fix faulty games...)

Can confirm Steam 'works' for me too. But not flawlessly. It does have the occasional caching problem, connectivity isn't spotless, and the new UI... man its beyond horrible. I created a batch to start Steam in mini library mode because I want to avoid it in full screen now.

Buying from Steam? Only if the key is cheap and its something I do actually want. These sales never really worked well for me, when key sites offer them the year round.

Small Mode is back now without the Beta or any “tricks”

Still keeping the batch, I actually really really like it. One click, no changelog :)

I've had issues since they pushed out the awful UI update.

I reverted back to the old UI and zero issues.

It is possible some of the issues stem from my use of Windows 7 on my gaming rig, but I also had issues using the new UI update on a Windows 10 computer as well.

Same. I much prefer the new UI to the old one. Feels faster with less bloat.

But speaking to crashes, I can't even remember the last time Steam crashed on me, or when I last had issues downloading/updating games. It has to be years. In fact, I can't remember the last time any of the launchers (Origin, EGS, Uplay etc) crashed on me. That just hasn't been a thing I ever worry about anymore.

I can honestly say that Steam has never crashed on me in about 14 years of use.
It has to be some other underlying issue surely, OP.

Current consensus on this suggests something wrong with your computer's OS or hardware instead of a wide spread Steam issue.

Cool. Glad that I'm the only one!

Oh wait, what about the thousands of people that have posted similar and other issues on Steam forums since the UI update?

Thousands? Okay...

But for argument's sake, let's say that was true. Thousands out of around 100 million active accounts doesn't really account for much. If a significant number of users were experiencing the number of issues you're having, it would have gotten much more public attention. By the way, I'm not saying that there aren't any issues with the new UI, but I don't think there are serious widespread issues like you're describing.

It’s my experience too. Steam has always been the least stable of all the launchers. Does that mean it is a crashfest? By no means, but it is the glitchiest. Pretty much like @Vayra86 : “occasional caching problem, connectivity isn't spotless.”

I personally can't stand the new interface. Takes a lot longer to load, and truncates long game names...
Also, makes game names a lot bigger - before, I used to be able to see all of my Favourite games at once. Now, about two thirds are shown, and I need to scroll down for the last third.
No, I have no plans on removing some of the games from the Favourite list.

I just now checked out the new UI...NICE!
I really wish CoD MW (reboot) was on Steam.
I really think Steam does a better job than Battle.net
Of the last 4 games I purchased 3 aren't on Steam.

Plus start an actual thread and ask for help.

Better than shitposting here where the Ui means nought.

You might get help that way, a fix , Steam's no different to me ,not perfect mind.

This could have been a look bargain thread, now it's a Moan Ui thread.

If you have a way to account for all the bot accounts and the people that don't voice their opinion and can prove what amount actually don't have issue, then you can post a number. I know of 6 people that don't use the forums that have issues with the new UI, they've outright stopped using Steam and haven't bought a game from it since, they've went to other platforms.

Right now your comment sounds the title of a click bait article where no actual information is provided, just some outlandish number used to try and get people to click and then read something that's not really relevant to the title.

Thousands that do utilize the forums have posted about issues and voiced their opinion. If you haven't read through them you're more than welcome to do so. Not very post are complaints, but a majority of them are. It's easy to see it's not an isolated issue with me or the two computers I've tired using Steam on since the UI was updated nearly a month back now. Some posts are of people that just don't like the new UI, but there are a lot of complains of issues the updates have brought.

Just grabbed the original Half Life for .99cents from the Steam Autumn Sale.

Never played the backstory before HL2, so all brand new for me - love it so much, amazing storyline so far.

.99 cents

Work rig enthusiasts learn to accept lower frame rates as part of life. lol. :p

Just going to buy Ori and the Blind Forest, as I already have hundreds of games on waiting. $5 is probably the lowest I have seen it drop.
