Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, announces a broad Qualcomm Snapdragon Compute platform portfolio with long battery life, cellular connectivity, and AI accelerated performance to enable fanless, thin and light designs for modern computing. Built with mobility in mind, the portfolio accommodates the evolving needs of mobile consumers. The Snapdragon 7c and 8c now join the previously announced Snapdragon 8cx, delivering lightning fast cellular connectivity to premium, mainstream, and entry-level notebook PCs. The portfolio is available in various price points allowing partners to design always on, always connected PCs for a wide array of consumers. In addition, the Snapdragon 8cx enterprise compute platform brings connected security software and secured-core PC support for modern enterprises looking to bring mobility to their workers.

"Qualcomm Technologies' innovation in smartphones and connectivity placed the power of your desktop PC in your phone, now the phone is returning the favor by bringing thin, light, always on, always connected, all-day battery life experiences to your PC," said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "The mobile-first consumer wants an experience on par with a smartphone, and we have the innovation, the inventions and the technology to enable this experience for customers across price points."

The Snapdragon 7c compute platform upgrades entry level devices bringing a 25% boost in system performance and up to twice the battery life vs. competing platforms plus lightning- fast connectivity via the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem. The Octa-core Qualcomm Kryo 468 CPU and Qualcomm Adreno 618 GPU deliver responsive performance with incredible battery life in the entry-tier. In addition, the Qualcomm AI Engine delivers over five trillion operations per second (TOPS) of performance for the latest AI accelerated experiences offered by Windows 10. A first of its kind in the entry-level PC that consumers want to experience.

The advanced 7 nm Snapdragon 8c Compute Platform boosts performance up to 30% over the Snapdragon 850, powering multi-tasking and productivity with faster CPU performance. Purpose-built with the instant-on responsiveness and multi-day battery life of a smartphone, its integrated Snapdragon X24 LTE modem enables multi-gigabit connectivity speeds for seamless cloud computing. Its Qualcomm AI Engine dedicates six TOPS to accelerate machine learning applications, while the powerful GPU provides stunning graphics, all in an ultra-thin, fan-less design optimized for mainstream use.

Building upon the world's first 7 nm PC platform, the Snapdragon 8cx, the new Snapdragon 8cx Enterprise Compute Platform delivers next-generation capabilities to the 21st century modern workplace. Corporations can now take advantage of optimized system performance and connected security software to bring an additional level of performance and security to complement the extreme performance, extreme battery life, and extreme connectivity of Snapdragon 8cx to drive an ever more productive workforce and enhanced security for their data. The full Snapdragon Mobile Compute portfolio gives partners greater flexibility to choose how to differentiate their offerings, meeting the diverse needs of the industry.

That is a lot of blablabla. Some more crap chips for slow as s**t PCs which can run 2 apps at snail speeds, but the important thing is they have 5G. Wow, if I have 5G in my toilet, I don't need anything else. I am tired of qualcomm lately.

Do you guys know any comparison in terms of performance between the ARM and x86 processors. I know it's like compare apples and oranges but just for the sake of it and curiosity. The ARM might be reaching for laptops and even desktops and I wish to know what it's got to offer now.

Last time I checked, for things like Windows on ARM, native programs run with acceptable performance, but emulated x86 programs are still unsatisfactory. I doubt that 30% will be enough. Either some software magic need to happen or ARM desktop programs need to be more popular.

Because it is emulated. It's like emulating Console on a PC. It always runs with glitches. Maybe that is the case here?
Not sure if there is any comparison like that that would not be controversial :)

Definitely. Most people need X86 programs on a "PC platform" though, which is what Qualcomm is targeting with these chips. IIRC Intel had lawsuits ready against Qualcomm over being about to run x86 with emulation, turned out they didn't bother, probably because the performance numbers didn't pose a threat.

This is akin to the SQ1 (which is an 8cx) in the new Surface Pro X. The Adreno 680 in them is basically the equivalent of a UHD 620 when playing 32-bit x86 games, and even then it's slower.

It does support H.265/HEVC hardware decoding though!

Too bad the laptops/tablets that use these chips are just as expensive as their x86 counterparts.

Sure dude. But I haven't stumble upon that article and I'm glad it is here so I cherish OP's effort and it doesn't matter what sort of media it is. There is no point for mockery from your side and demands for more info because this is what the OP has found and cared to share. If you want more details find more information and post it here please I'd gladly read so as others. Be more pleasant to others since it doesn't hurt. Still not cool bro. :)

Still missing the point, bro. This is not 'find and share', this is a press release, its public and wants exposure.

The comment is directed at the writer of the press release and falls in the same line as 'less marketing, more facts tyvm'.

Pleasantries are for personal relationships, towards businesses pleasantries are a way to get milked and misled. To each his own ;)
