2K Games has confirmed that a new Bioshock game is under development. 2K set up a whole new studio, "Cloud Chamber", that will helm development on this (can I say much beloved?) franchise "for the next several years". Cloud Chamber will set up quarters in both San Francisco and Montreal. Kelley Gilmore, who has been attached to Firaxis Studios and worked in other 2K franchises such as XCOM and Sid Meier's Civilization, has been appointed Cloud Chamber's Studio Head.

The new Cloud Chamber studio opens its doors with "a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock's principal creation, advancement and longstanding notoriety." No other details were available at time of writing. While it's obviously too soon to scream happily from the top of your lungs (and it usually always is until you've actually finished the game), this is definitely a positive sign for the franchise and all those who value it.

David Ismaier, 2K President, said:

As we continue growing our product portfolio, we remain inspired by opportunities to invest further in our valuable IP, great people and their collective, long-term potential. BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation. We can't wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.

Ugh. Bioshock 2 was a huge disappointment because they farmed it out to a team that had no real vision. The story was bland, the main villain was bland, the locale was mostly bland. If they do manage to push a good narrative without falling into the SJW/PC horseshit it could be good, but I doubt they'll do better than your average Bethesda storytelling. Here's hoping though.

I thought the first one was great, until the dull, boring ending. I heard the 2nd wasn't that great and there were mixed feelings about the third entry.

I have Bioshock 2 and Bioshock Infinite still in the original packaging, I never got around to playing them. Either I'm lazy or I was in a horrible place of buying games just to be buying them....I think it was the latter because I have around 2 dozen physical games I haven't opened yet and a good 8 dozen+ digital games I've never played. Thankfully I finally broke out of my game buying habit and one day I might just get around to playing them all.

First Bioshock was okay, second one was big meh (so bad I cant remember what the story was), Infinite was ok-ish (I really don't like game messing with time travel) while the Burial At The Sea episode two....
linked the ending with the intro of first bioshock, which was cool
. So I don't really know how this new one going to be, I just wait for reviews/walkthrough.

The only good part about 2, I thought, was where you can play as one of the little sisters and see the world through their eyes and realize they're constantly tripping on acid.

I remember playing a bit of the first one a couple of years after it was released. It seemed fine, but I never really got to sink my teeth into it. I never picked up and played the second one properly, and judging by comments here I wasn’t missing much!

The third game I thoroughly loved though and I played it through to the end. I thought it was a really well put together game with an intriguing story.

It’ll be interesting to see how they progress the series.

The game actually started being developed 2 years ago, and went to 2 different developers. So now it is on its 3rd developer, so hopefully this time the team that brought in sticks around.

I would rank the Bioshock games in this order

1, Infinite, 2

The DLC for Bioshock 2 (Minerva's Den) was better quality than the game itself imo which is usually not the case for DLC but I did enjoy Bioshock 2.

The DLC for Bioshock Infinite (Burial at Sea) is a must play if you want to understand Rapture a little better.

Hope this next game turns out good. We've been to Rapture under the ocean. We've been to Columbia in the sky. Where to next?

I for one am looking forward to this, as long as it is an entirely new story arc. The first was wrapped up nicely and should stay that way.

I loved Bioshock, thought 2 was ok-ish, but necessary for the entire story they were telling (I didn’t realize it until after finishing the whole series), and thoroughly loved Infinite. It was a wild ride with a great story l, fantastic level design, and exciting gameplay.

I’ve played 1 twice, but Infinite 4 times. For me, it is an easy way to snag 20-25 hours of fun if I need something to play. The first time, I was in a state of drool and blank stare for an hour afterward at what total fun it was. The thoughts of the game ran through my head for days.

Overall, the metaphysical arc of the series, when you really sit and analyze it is mind blowing. What they came up with in terms of depth of the tale was very complicated and brilliant. Science fails? Sure! Brilliant story telling? You bet!!

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I could entertain another Bioshock game; The last I heard was that Irrational Games was laying off all but about 15 staff and that those were sticking around just to finish Burial at Sea.

I think it was Ken Levine in an interview stating that whatever their next project was going to be, they'd focus on narrative.

Let's face it, Bioshock and System shock franchises were always mediocre when it camed to FPS combat, the thing that made them special was the narrative.

Reason why I can't replay Bioshock as much is because of this. The combat mechanics is just terrible.
