AMD today announced the Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card for the DIY (retail) channel, launched exclusively through its add-in board partners. Based on the 7 nm "Navi 14" silicon, the RX 5500 XT has the same exact core-configuration as the RX 5500 launched in October to OEMs. This means only 22 out of the 24 RDNA compute units are enabled, and the XT doesn't max the silicon out. These work out to 1,408 stream processors. Other vital specs include 88 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide GDDR6 memory interface. The RX 5500 XT will still end up faster than the RX 5500 OEM card from last month, since it has a higher engine "game clocks" of 1717 MHz, while the RX 5500 OEM ships with roughly 1670 MHz game clocks. Engine boost clocks for the RX 5500 XT are rated at up to 1845 MHz.

The Radeon RX 5500 XT comes in two variants based on memory size, 4 GB and 8 GB. Both variants use 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory chips across the chip's 128-bit wide memory bus. The 4 GB variant uses four commonly available 8 Gbit chips, while the 8 GB variant typically uses high-density 16 Gbit memory chips. AMD is pricing the Radeon RX 5500 XT at USD $169.99 for the 4 GB variant, and $199.99 for the 8 GB variant. It competes with a spectrum of NVIDIA cards including the GeForce GTX 1650 and GTX 1650 Super.

Wow! AMD has released a GTX1060 6GB four years after NVIDIA!

That's a historical moment.
FineWine in Action!

:D , better than nothing I guess...
Worse, actually. AMD's 5500xt is, on average, no faster then a 580, but costs MORE then a brand new 580 right now.

AMD has managed to go backwards. Even Nvidia didnt do that.

The 5500 is the entry level card in the 5000 lineup, while the RX 580 was the mid range card in the 500-Vega lineup. The efficiency is about 75% better than the RX 580. And it costs $30 less than the RX 580 MSRP.

And just one example from NV: GTX 1650 is slower than an RX 570 and costs 20% more.

So what on earth are you talking about?

should be avaiable on $300 soon at my country, altho i get a special discount for a $40+, im not gonna buy it since performance review is bad, i thinks it neck to neck with 1650super, this time nvidia win both price&performance, not sure through oc, as amd still had potential to do so:)

I like how none of the poll questions agree with the pricing.
Lol. I don't think anyone can defend that pricing. Had the 4GB card been priced at $140 and the 8GB at $160 they could have been received warmly. As has been said many times before, you don't really see bad products, just bad pricing, and this pricing is terrible.

1650 super -lower price,same performance
1660 - same price,higher performance (15-20%)
1660 super-slightly higher price,noticeably higher performance +$20-30 for +30-40%

amd advertises 8gb makes a difference

I stand corrected. The 8gb version goes head to head with 1660 and loses to 1660 super not by 30-40% but by 15-20%

I think 1650 suuper is a better buy than 5500xt 4gb and 1660 super is absolutely worth the $20-30 premium for +20% performance.
the 5500xt can only compete with the old non-super series.

it'd be an itereseting card if it competed with 1660 super better.5-10% for $20-30 less would be good.%20 slower is not worth it.1660 supers win the OC round on top of that, 10% vs 6% performance
improvement.

IMO the key was the 128-bit bus.If they went with ONE rx5500xt 6gb 192-bit at $190 msrp $210 aib the card would be much better.

It's a shame if you were not a troll.
  • Roughly the same performance
  • Roughly the same power consumption
  • Currently the same price
Where did I troll, sir? Or stating inconvenient facts about the underdog is considered "trolling" nowadays? I didn't know that.

So it turns out AMD are just a greedy multi-billion corp too.

Nothing surprising really. As always some people wait for AMD to save the world, but they just follow NVIDIA's pricing.
