Dishonored, Wolfenstein Franchises Now Available DRM-Free in GOG

I don't know about you, but I've found the Dishonored universe to be one of the most interesting ones to be explored in gaming in recent years. Now, publisher Bethesda has made the dishonored franchise available via CD Projekt Red's GOG digital storefront, which means DRM-free versions of games you get to keep forever, as well as digital goodies. The original Dishonored and DLC, alongside Dishonored 2 and its expansion Death of the Outsider (too late for a spoiler alert, uh?) are now available with discounts up to 75% off.

Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood are also available through GOG as of now, so if you have a Nazi-killing craving lurking somewhere in your conscious or subconscious mind, GOG has that itch covered for you with hefty discounts as well (and these are extensive to the entirety of Bethesda's published catalogue on GOG, including those more retro pieces of gaming such as Quake and Doom). Go now, and be happy.

As an aside, GOG is excellent. It's liberating to not be tied to Steam or other launchers.

Now let's just hope for games like Skyrim or Fallout 4 to come to GOG. The random unskippable updates on Steam are the single most annoying thing when modding those games.

Given Bethesda's focus on MTX like Creation Club, it probably won't happen unfortunately.

UGH, so true. Why must they constantly be fudging memory entries with those CC updates? Like, why even? Basically puts you at the mercy of whatever modders are actually still around. Or you learn to patch them yourself. But then that day comes when you're all fired up to play and instead will have to spend some time digging everything up and making your patches... assuming you've already worked out which mods are script-extender-dependent... and assuming the script extender has already been updated for the new version.

Worse yet, if you have a long standing save already and some of your scripted mods no longer work, that save can be scrap. Been there, done that. FO4 saves are not anywhere near cleanable, sadly :/ If it was Skyrim I might've saved it.

I mean... even if the modders are active, that's still pretty sucky for them to have to continually be watching for updates on a game they may not even be playing anymore, just to keep the mods they've earned some rep for working. Not very inspiring of Bethesda. I wouldn't want to deal with that as a modder. It's hard enough to keep compatibility with other mods.

One time they got me bad on that with FO4 - and that is when I learned that Steam keeps the older versions on the server after new ones come out, so you can sometimes trick steam into feeding you the version you need. Now I just keep a backup of the main game files on hand...

Yep I played The Old Blood too, it was good to me but too short IMO.

Yep they should include 2009 Wolfenstein as well. The gameplay is unique.

{What follows is a compilation of my memory, organized off the cuff, based on looking into this pretty extensively. So, being off the top of my head, feel free to discount it and research. I havent saved any links over the years on the subject.}

That entry’s ownership is in limbo as I understand it from my deep dives the last couple years. That’s why you cannot find it digitally anywhere. I secured a disc copy with DRM about 6 months ago and installed it on my Windows 8 machine, since that can play drm games still (sometimes with some frustration).

it didn’t sell well, so Raven Software mostly got canned by Activision. As far as I have been able to ascertain, Bethesda bought the IP for Wolfenstein, so they got 2009, and bought the right to publish Wolfenstein games, but not 2009.

In any case, they were none too impressed, with members of the Machine Games dev team speaking disparagingly about it. And Bethesda likes the sales of “their” Wolfenstein. Since 2009 would likely need legal work for Bethesda to publish it, and without the desire to do so, it will likely never be seen digitally.

Your best bet is to get a physical copy off ebay. I got mine new and unopened. Be prepared for a good drm fight to install it!

They need to get over that nonsense. It was an excellent game, IMHO one of Raven's best efforts.

Bethesda, do the work and let's see it on GOG! Wolf2009 may not have been as popular as other entries in the series, but it is well loved. Make the effort, you will be rewarded.

Actually, very easily found. Ordering one to replace my missing disc(still have the case). Would still like to have a DRM-free GOG version though...

I gave up gaming for a minute after my kids were born...kinda
I had a 3570k/2133mhz ddr3/r9-280 I built in 2013 and it only had 43 hours on it when I sold it in 2016..I had other systems but still.

Download a steam version and be done with it. I can just deploy a Skyrim setup pre cooked with all the mods I want. Built it up once and backed up safely somewhere And that was after spending yet another evening reinstalling the POS because some mods had updated. Even just that... no ty.

Tried that already. And yet my backlog kept growing. I mean, I didn't get to go through Witcher3, ffs. These days it's 2-3 grinding mobile games for me and that's it.

Well, gog offers an option to import titles owned on steam. It's probably down to publisher to decide if it can be imported.

Yes, but how cool would it be to "buy" a game once and be able to play it no matter what device you happen to stumble upon? E.g. PC, Xbox, PS. I don't necessarily expect my chars/progression to be automatically synced (that would be a nice to have), just to be able to fire up a title I have paid for.
