Newegg Offering Free Face Masks with All US Orders

Newegg will be offering all US customers the option to add a free pack of disposable face masks to their orders. Newegg managed to secure a shipment of face masks for its employees and is now offering their spare inventory to customers, for those looking for more masks Newegg is also selling 50 packs for $35 with any purchase.

Newegg CEO Anthony Chow said in an interview with Tom's Hardware "This is a short-term distribution limited to stock on hand. Every U.S. customer shopping Newegg.com will receive the pop-up offer at check-out unless they take the offer, opt out of future notifications, or our supply is depleted." Limits of one pack per customer are also in place to prevent hoarding, so it would seem this means everyone has an equal chance of securing some masks. If you've been looking for masks now might be the time to order your next upgrade.

Yes, it's from China. Made by BYD, a car manufacture, also Huawei's OEM.

Cool. Too bad its just virtue signaling. Those masks wont stop corona. You need a N95 to make a significant dent in coronavirus exposure, a P100 for best results for civilians. A bandanna will do just as much as a surgical mask will.

And given the masks, test kits, and other PPE China has been shipping out has repeatedly proven to be worthless at best and infected with corona at worst, yeah, I wouldnt chance these things.

This is pretty timely. I actually need a mask and they are pretty much out in my area so this would actually be pretty helpful to me right now. If only Newegg had given useful freebies with all of my past orders .

The electronics are, so... I mean if you already crossed that bridge by ordering electronics now you are being picky in a weird spot.

Those masks wont stop corona.

They are better than going out bare is the consensus right now.

They offer peace of mind and that's it. Any mask that doesn't form a seal around the nose and mouth leaves gaps. Air like water, and electrons follow the path of least resistance e.g. those gaps, therefore those mask provide little to zero protection against airborne pathogens.

What a great PR move. Most places with spare inventory donate them to hospitals. I assume these are junk then, so this is a twofer.

Sorry, not the masks. The components for the test kits were infected:
600K masks from China were recalled for being defective:
The test kits China was supplying were defective:

These all came after China made a big deal on the world stage about "helping the rest of the world deal with coronavirus", this stuff was coming from the same factories that, for years, have been making these things without issue. Curious timing.

I'll keep looking for other articles, I remember other shipments from other European countries being affected by this, but I'm having trouble finding the articles. I wouldnt trust any PPE, whether it be gloves, maks, ece or testing equipment of any kind from china right now (or ever, but thats a tale for a different thread).

I mean it's not like virtually smuggling PPE from other countries & then selling them at nearly 10x the markup, not mine but Gov. Cuomo's words, is comparable, is it?
Not to mention lying through their teeth about human to human transmission for at least a good month or so!

Any way since this thread is gonna go the usual way might as well put it here ~

Coronavirus: China stockpiled more than 2 billion masks and

Whistleblower saw TONNES of facemasks being packed for China

Basically, masks like this are to keep infection in, not keep it out.

Surgical masks are to help prevent the person wearing them from spreading any infection they might have to someone else. If s surgeon coughs during surgery, the mask catches what comes out of their mouth so it doesn't go into the patient. Yes, the argument can be made that some will get out around the mask since it doesn't seal, but it really doesn't, the mask does a good job of catching the cough or sneeze.

I i have ordered nothing new, and iif i had it would not of been from Newegg.

Than going without ?, you sure, you actually 100% sure that mask is not infected even before it gets to you. and these look like those dodgy things of ebay too.

Isn't Newegg owned by China now too ?, seems sup they trying to help a few people out in China to off load this crap.

You get angry smilies under your post even though you are 100% on the money. China managed to send us 600K face masks that were faulty. 'Woops'. And even today its still a known fact they keep the higher quality N95's for themselves. EVEN with excess production.

Its not rocket science either. We know China manufacturing quality is hit or miss and if you don't explicitly check your order, you will get ripped a new one. Hundreds of companies have experienced this, why would it be different when things are under pressure? Production lines have hastily been revamped into mask lines... what do we expect? Its the same thing as that emergency hospital in Wuhan where stuff collapsed due to shoddy construction... These things are not coincidental, its a side effect of the system this country has. The same side effect that kept this virus unknown to us for months even with information available in China. They can't even help themselves, its inherent to the command structure.

And obviously this is virtue signaling on Neweggs part, and IMO it is utterly disgusting. Creating false sense of security to drive sales. Blegh

So much fking idiots. Yeah right fight other human because it is cool. Meanwhile the virus don't give a fking shit what flag you wave. You are all just fking meat and breeding ground for more virus. All the scientists, doctors and nurses risking their lives to stop the disease from spreading and here we have nut cases keep making BS claims

The virus doesn't care, but Xi does and there are more and more signs China is taking advantage of the situation right now. I'm all for a happy peaceful world where everyone hugs everyone, but its not the reality. Some of the claims are BS, correct, but some of them are also supported by evidence.

They are better than going out bare is the consensus right now.

The consensus of the US health institutions is not that face masks help, only the mouthpiece has said this under pressure. And neither is that anti malaria drug Trump was boasting about going to be of any use. He's got 29 million overpriced placebo pills right now. Virologists in the EU are still not sharing this consensus and we also know that the WHO is being pressured from China's end. And China really loves masks, too.

Will they help? In certain situations, perhaps. But with random people/masses wearing them and going about their business again? Its a direct ticket back into a new pandemic.

But hey, 'what have you got to lose'.
Its time you wake up. POTUS has failed miserably in this crisis and is already pretty much predicting and accepting hundreds of thousands of deaths, because then he can say in the near future 'he did great'. Its already what he is saying btw. And those 'face masks at least help a little bit' statements fall right in line. His 'What have you got to lose' statement says it all. That is what you say when you're out of options, or simply refusing to fix a problem. Political lies at the expense of lives, that is what this is, no more and no less.

The truth you DONT hear, is that domestic healthcare is in need of a serious change, along with a bunch of other social support systems and that the decentralized approach right now is a complete failure, too. Another truth you don't hear, is that a vast majority of the populace doesn't care if the bottom end of the ladder rots away and dies miserably, 'as long as its the other guy and not me'. Every man for himself. Make your own mask. Dig your own grave.

That is the context in which people are now advocating the use of masks.

seems sup they trying to help a few people out in China to off load this crap.

That logic only works if they are selling them. They're giving them away for free, so it's no different than whoever they are helping in your theory just throwing them in the dumpster.

These are not helping, they are pointless. Be better off using a scarf out of the wardrobe be a much better and safer too boot.

On another thought it's like hey look we have face masks for sale and their fore most will look for other ones meaning they would make money from it.

So you say. I've talked to actual doctors lately, a lot of them. They all state the same thing.

That said, any cloth'll due for that level of protection. It doesn't have to come from Newegg.

Will they help? In certain situations, perhaps. But with random people/masses wearing them and going about their business again? Its a direct ticket back into a new pandemic.

No one is advising that. My state now requires a mask of some sort to shop for groceries even, though.

Than going without ?, you sure, you actually 100% sure that mask is not infected even before it gets to you. and these look like those dodgy things of ebay too.

You can't be sure of that with ANY mask right now. Even the states is a hotspot. Infected people go to work in states that don't offer sick leave. Who'd of thunk it?

Thanks. Funny it flys in the face of what we are being told about the virus being unlikely to survive shipping. It’s possible it wasn’t viable or the kits had been refrigerated but still...

As has been repeatedly stated, that is not the medical consensus, but it is the popular parrot-point.

How is it not the medical consensus and a popular parrot point when it was stated by the WHO.

"There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit."

so called parrot-point

In fact, there's some evidence to suggest the opposite in the misuse of wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly

Referring to mask contamination e.g. taking a clean mask off, setting it on a contaminated surface then putting the now contaminated mask back on

If you are referring to "not the medical consensus" as the fact that medical professionals wear masks when performing their duties that is SOP, pandemic or not that doesn't change.

You can go back and forth all day about the necessity and qualities of varying masks, but doctors and nurses here in NYC are forced to wear the same mask for 60 hours...

Newegg should be giving these to hospitals, for free, not customers.
