Cougar today unveiled the GX-F Aurum line of premium power supplies for gaming PCs. Consisting of 550 W, 650 W, and 750 W variants, these PSUs offer fully modular cabling, 80 Plus Gold efficiency, a single +12V rail design, DC-to-DC switching, and tight ±3% voltage regulation. All three models offer two 4+4 pin EPS connectors keeping in mind upcoming processor architectures. The 550 W model includes two 6+2 pin PCIe power and six SATA power, while the 650 W and 750 W ones offer four 6+2 pin PCIe, and eight SATA power. Common to all three variants is a 135 mm hydro-dynamic bearing (HDB) fan. Cougar is backing these with 7-year warranties. Availability is slated for late-April.

I don't think that it was good idea to use Aurum name and dark grey + gold color scheme. They are already dedicated for the legend. I am even not sure if they didn't break the copyrights:

I am not sure if my taste is bad or these PSU are much nicer than new FSP PSUs. Generally, they are look very nice for me

That was my initial thought too, they stole the name and design from FSP.

I don't think that the Latin name for gold can be copyrighted, correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe not in general, but as a product name it should be protected.

At best as a logo (my opinion). It's just a Latin name. Haven't heard of collisions between Seasonic and FD on the topic of the word "Focus" - it'd be too silly, wouldn't it.

As for legends, while not as well-regarded back in the day, HEC/Compucase isn't a younger player than FSP. (Neither is Sirfa if this is going to be a Sirfa rebrand and not a HEC).
Išvis iš "legendinių" laikų prisimenu tik Codegenus :D Gal ir FSPškių buvo... kartu su HECais ir Power Manais ir dar daug kuo

It's made by HEC, literally just regular GX-F with golden colored casing (hence the 'Aurum').

And an apple is just a common fruit, but try naming a product Apple.

And what about those Nexus phones few years ago.. the case manufacturer Nexus was in the game way before there was smartphones/tablets in the Nexus lineup.

I think the whole restrictions on naming convention is to stop similar products from being confused.
Two PSUs named Aurum is ridiculous and could lead to consumer confusion, but if one was a car, not so much.

Codegenai... :D Ir “750W“ Intertech :D

Where was time when people looked for maximum efficiency as indicator of the quality. These days FSP Aurum were cheapest Gold rated PSUs while Corsair AX, Enermax Modu 87+ and Seasonic X-Series cost little bit more. That is why people bought them.

Actually they was not great, but not terible too. Despite fact, that they price was fair for sugested quality, high end "Bronze" PSUs such as Seasonic S12/M12 series and Corsair TX still were better choices. Anyway I believe that Aurum and Everest are the most iconic FSP PSU lineups of all time.
