ASUS today launches ZenBook Duo (UX481), a groundbreaking 14-inch laptop featuring the new ASUS ScreenPad Plus — a revolutionary 12.6-inch full-width auxiliary touchscreen that expands and enhances the interactive capabilities offered by the original ASUS ScreenPad. We covered the initial announcement at CES, ASUS has now released full details and pricing.

ScreenPad Plus changes the way users can interact with their laptop, allowing productivity-enhancing workflows and easy multitasking. It integrates seamlessly with the primary display, and the built-in ScreenXpert software includes a wide selection of useful apps, tools and utilities that allow users to easily enjoy the efficiency benefits of ScreenPad Plus.

Extreme performance for effortless creativity is provided by up to a 10th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, combined with up to 16 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce MX250 GPU, with ultrafast storage provided by up to a 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD.

ZenBook Duo features a stunning PANTONE Validated FHD display for breathtaking color-accurate visuals. The display is a frameless four-sided ASUS NanoEdge design, with ultraslim bezels for immersive visuals, enabling an ultracompact form factor and a weight of just 3.31 lb.

The brand new Celestial Blue color gives ZenBook Duo a sophisticated air of timeless innovation. It's also decorated with a unique asymmetric version of the iconic Zen-inspired spun-metal finish: an intriguing design detail that gives ZenBook Duo a totally unmistakable identity.

World's first 14" ScreenPad Plus laptop

The unique ScreenPad Plus on ZenBook Duo marks the worldwide debut of this innovative feature on a 14-inch laptop. ScreenPad Plus gives users the ability to enjoy the productivity and efficiency benefits of using two separate LCD displays on a single portable device. The full-width 32:9 aspect-ratio touchscreen sits directly above the laptop's keyboard, providing a greatly enlarged visual workspace while preserving the standard laptop form factor.

ScreenPad Plus can be used just like any standard second display in Windows to display visual content, or users can take advantage of many time-saving features and functions built into the ScreenXpert control software to simplify multiscreen window and app management. These include handy quick controls such as App Switcher, ViewMax and App Navigator that enable intuitive interactions and easy cross-screen referencing between the main display and ScreenPad Plus. Task Group lets users lock instantly into work mode by opening multiple tasks with a single touch.

Users can also drag discrete apps, toolbars or menus onto ScreenPad Plus to reduce clutter on the main screen and enhance work efficiency. Casual creators can dock their tools such as video previews, timeline controls, code windows or audio mixer panels onto ScreenPad Plus to optimize their workflow. Social communications apps placed on ScreenPad Plus allow users to keep up to date and respond instantly to messages while working, without having to switch between windows. For easier referencing, users can keep previews of files, websites, photos or videos on ScreenPad Plus while working on documents on the main display.

Adaptive functions, pioneered in the original ScreenPad, also offer enhanced workflow. ASUS is working with developers including Corel to optimize adaptive ScreenPad tools for the ultimate productivity. However, most Windows apps can be used with ScreenPad Plus, with no need for a specific ScreenPad Plus-enabled version. Using an ASUS Pen — or any other active stylus — enables yet another layer of interactivity for users, with ScreenPad Plus offering a superbly stable platform for writing or drawing. The ErgoLift tilting keyboard design ensures the most comfortable drawing or typing experience ever.

Powerful performance

ZenBook Duo is designed for ultimate on-the-go productivity. It's powered by up to the latest 10th Generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processor with up to a 4.9 GHz Turbo Boost frequency and 16 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The NVIDIA GeForce MX250 GPU boosts on-the-go graphics processing while helping maintain superb battery life.

An up to 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD ensures ultrafast data access at all times, and there's a full set of I/O ports including USB Type-C (USB-C ), USB Type-A, HDMI and microSD card ports. The latest Intel Wi-Fi 6 with Gig+ (802.11ax) takes wireless speeds to the next level, for supersmooth connections to the world.

This potent specification combined with ScreenPad Plus makes ZenBook Duo one of the most productive 14-inch laptops available for discerning on-the-go for multitaskers and light content creators, ensuring an ultra-fluid cross-screen workflow when using ScreenPad Plus.

Brilliant visuals

The FHD NanoEdge display on ZenBook Duo is truly amazing, with a four-sided frameless design featuring an 90% screen-to-body ratio that gives users more screen, and fewer distractions. This brilliant PANTONE Validated display delivers ultra-accurate colors for precision work.

Beyond all-day battery life

The 70 Wh high-capacity battery in ZenBook Duo works with the power-efficient 10th Generation Intel Core processor and MX250 graphics to deliver extraordinary battery performance, with up to 22 hours of video playback time, or up to 16 hours even when ScreenPad is turned on. On-the-go productivity has never been easier.

Power-efficient? A 4-core Comet Lake at 25W TDP?

I understand omitting Renoir given that the R&D timeline didn't line up, but imagine crippling an "innovative" laptop with the worst of three worlds:
- A shitty entry level Pascal GPU for none of the performance and none of the efficiency under 3D load
- Not opting for the IPC, efficiency, and iGPU of Ice Lake, which would eliminate the need for that trash-tier dGPU
- Going with Comet Lake in an ultraportable yet an SKU that doesn't leverage Comet Lake's core count advantage, and still relies on the MX350 for any real work because it's not Ice Lake

I suppose the Zephyrus G14 was too well received, so Asus felt the need for some bullshit on the side to balance it out. This is akin to pondering how to balance efficiency, power and thermals, and then opting for "none of the above".
