A have a legit question though, what ISA does this chip use? Is it a custom homegrown ISA designed specifically for this chip? If that's the case, adoption is probably going to be pretty rough because there will be very little tooling for developing for it, even if the specs sound pretty impressive. We still need to be able to use it, not just oogle at its specs.
VLIW instruction set with custom vector and matrix-multiplication instructions
Kanter also pretty directly says compiler and other tools are essential to this. I cannot not think about Itanium when looking at this.

Is that how you take innovations and something new not coming from US? It would seem that innovations are not desirable. I'd like to know more about this Techyum thing. 128 cores is pretty slick if you ask me. Wonder why it uses all the newest tech stuff. PCIe5 and DDR5 etc. Hopefully this isn't a marketing scheme.

This is how the EU views things - not me!!!! I don't agreed with this position. The EU is deeply jealous of the Anglosphere and the US in general.

Jealous? What makes you think that? I think it's great they have some new stuff coming in like this CPU. It shows that nobody needs to be reliant on one producer. You mentioned Intel but AMD is involved in this as well. Besides we need to look for other solutions and innovations with CPU power and performance. I still wonder how this one compares to other CPUs. All in all you have to admit, they have up the ante a bit with this CPU.

More like reinventing the wheel with some added chrome! The EU has a "not invented here syndrome". Is aiming for independence from US corporation and/or IPR is really innovation when it just looks like a basic evolutionary design step?
I know I'm a bit off topic here but I suggest you as missing the overall thrust of the EU's purpose in funding projects like this.

Maybe it has "not invented anything syndrome". Maybe it is aiming for independence from US. As I see it, the EU is tired of Intel and no improvements for so damn long. EU has an idea and goes for it instead of the same ol' marketing and stagnation. If it brings something new to the table then why not try it? You make it sound, US makes stuff for everybody for better living. If someone else tries it that means they want independence from US. They already have it their independence. AMD is considered a black sheep still and since everyone thinks, we need more performance, other countries and/or organizations started taking things in their own hands instead of be reliant on someone who can't deliver or it's hard for them to deliver. I see nothing wrong in this actually all the way around.

I take your point but for the EU it is always about geo politically positioning/motivation and less about technical progress or innovation. It is likely another political vanity project and will mostly lead nowhere. The EU is littered with them because you can buy 80% of what you need off the shelf elsewhere. Any dependence on the Anglosphere is a deep ideological issue for the EU yet kowtowing towards China has been more acceptable. Interesting times ahead.

I feel like a VLIW ISA would make this a very hard system to build performant software for, particularly for a C application and compiler. Maybe not Fortran though, but that's probably more of a result of what kind of people who are attracted to Fortran. I could see something like this being great at crunching weather data. You know, applications where what you're doing is relatively simple, but the amount of data you have is absolutely massive. This would probably not be so great for the opposite case, where you don't have as much data but have to do a [relatively] complicated analysis of it. Low level stuff is a little bit out of my area of expertise. I try to avoid low level languages and dealing with architecture as much as possible.

If you think, for the US it is all about innovation then you are mistaken. You can't see things from that perspective because it's a lost cause.

Given you cannot see an alternative opinion, I agree - lost cause.

That is the problem. There is always alternative option but you cant look at the subject in a way, whatever is not made in US is either bad or they are trying to get independence from US. That is absurd. You connect your chain of thought to politics too much. You have an idea you do it.

You cannot tell me how to think, you attempt to put words in my mouth and you keep forcing your opinion on me. You have an issue. I am simply relaying a widely held observation as it is seen across much of the EU. In short you are a bully and rude.

I'm not attempting anything and this "put words in my mouth"is getting really famous here. You are justifying US for inventing for the masses but have doubts other nations are doing this thinking, "Why do this when US does it. It must be because they want independence". Now that, is not thinking and that is rude widely across all the EU nations trying to do something of their own. What observations? EU is trying to invent something of its own and that is where you base your opinion saying they simply do this to cut US out? How was I rude or bully you? if someone is not agreeing with you it means that the person is a bully and rude cause he's got a different opinion and looks at things from the way they actually are skipping political background and differences? Not everything in our lives is politics and a country business and influence on others.

Some people have a lot to say but if they are cornered, facts go out the window. Then " don't put words in my mouth", pushy or bully comes into play.
Not looking at the bigger picture is a serious problem these days which means conclusions drawn don't represent actual situation.
Anyway. This Techyium thing is a great stuff and I'm looking forward to see it in action. The only think I'm curious about is, why they have stuffed it with so much new tech? DDR5 PCIe5? Kinda overkill and I'm worried, is it a marketing scheme?
You are entitled to your opinion and so am I.
You know how I see your opinion? Everything from US is great, everything from the rest of the world is blah, because why bother when US makes it and why the EU wants to cut out from the "BIG BROTHER". Kudos for thinking though.

And another member of the bully gang comes out!

Mhm, the world is a bully and you're the only one doing the right thing here.

As I said, Entitlement.

Try self reflection for a change.

Who is bullying whom here? You just showed the definition of rude in practice. You must be one of the "Amerikians" an American but not precisely.
This attitude of yours makes me never wanting to come back to US.

I take your point but for the EU it is always about geo politically positioning/motivation and less about technical progress or innovation.

CERN and ITER would like a word.

Not forgetting those plucky Dutch folk:
