With the COVID-19 global pandemic forcing entire payrolls to work from home, the demand for pre-built computers handed out by companies, or those purchased by workers at their own expense, has hit an all time high. ASUS expects a massive 30% surge in notebook shipments in Q2-2020, with Q1 having mopped up inventories across the globe. For Q1-2020, ASUS reported $2.12 billion in revenues, down 28.27% sequentially, and 23.3% YoY. ASUS expects that the surge in notebook sales started toward the end of March, and could go on until June.

Because Asus sells gaming notebooks and believe me it's a big market today. Many (casual) gamers will pick a gaming laptop over a desktop these days. And Asus makes some of the best ones.

Q1 and Q2 should see a surge in sales for all laptop manufacturers due to implementation of work and study from home strategy almost globally. Generally 1 household may have 2 computers, and may not be sufficient for a family of 3 or more. So people end up buying additional laptops. What this may means is that demand for Q3 and 4, and to some extend even in 2021, may see a decline in laptop sales since there are so many laptops out in the market.
