Soyo has two?
That would be the first PC boards they've made in almost 20 years that I know of.
Not the same company, some crappy Chinese company bought the right to use the name.

Sorry, I lost you here. X570 and B550 has pretty much nothing in common, except that they interface with an AMD CPU over a PCIe interface.
X570 is a byproduct of the fact that AMD didn't have a partner that could create a suitable PCIe 4.0 chipset for Ryzen 3000 and AMD then ended up flipping their I/O die and turning it into a rather big and hot chipset.
B550 is a PCIe 3.0 device, which would most likely not have been as impressive if it had been the launch chipset for Ryzen 3000, as people would've complained about gimped connectivity. It still suffers a bit from that, but as a budget to mid-range chipset I guess it's acceptable.

I mean, they're extremely similar in functionality. What coould have prevented AMD from helping ASMedia bring B550 to market in a timely manner, when they already had X570 figured out?

But that's not how contracting work. If I contract something out, I'm just going to wait for that project to be done to the specifications I gave the contractor. I'm not going to get involved and telling them what to or how to do it. I would request progress reports and obviously if they screw up the project, I'm screwed (which has happened to me a few times, unfortunately). We don't know how many times ASMedia had to try to get this right, although I'm guessing they're not that incompetent so... Also, ASMedia is a very small company with maybe 40-50 IC designers at most, so they don't have unlimited resources to do something like this. The entire company is only about 230 people.

That is correct, but I'm thinking, AMD needed B550 out the door as much as ASMedia did. Then again, this could have simply been a manpower issue after all.
In the meantime, I had to bite the bullet and go for a X470 board which arrived defective and now, because of the lockdown, I'm stuck with it (will send it in for repairs when things settle down, but my return period expired). Just so you know why I'm bitter about B550 being so late ;)

Edited my post a bit, as I guess I might've put slightly too low numbers on their IC engineers. They obviously have a lot more engineers overall, as they need a bunch of people to go with the IC designers.

That's unfortunate, but it happens at times. Now has to be the worst time to have anything computer related break.

Eh, I just yanked out the defective mobo and went back to my trusty 6600k. It's not even slow, I got the 3600 mostly to support AMD. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess :D

Great to see several ITX models on the list, hopefully they arrive day 1. And hopefully the majority of them have 2 m.2 slots and WiFi.
