It has some possibility (though that low) that amd refresh the current line 3XXX to 6nm. I just remembered this:

"TSMC in its quarterly earnings call expressed confidence in that most of its 7 nm (N7) process production node customers would be looking to make the transition to their 6 nm (N6) process. In fact, the company expects that node to become the biggest target for volume ordering (and thus production) amongst its customers, since the new N6 fabrication technology will bring about a sort of "backwards compatibility" with design tools and semiconductor designs that manufacturers have already invested in for its N7 node, thus allowing for cost savings for its clients. Impossible.

Ryzen 4000 will be Zen 3 on N7P or N7+.
While Ryzen 5000 will be Zen 4 on N5 (or N6).

What the hell, matisse refresh, gen4?
Just give me the vermeers. Why do you (AMD) even care with Intel right now, Ffs.

Interesting, AMD already have an IPC advantage if they push the frequencies a bit they'll take back the few FPS between them and Intel in gaming.

If this refresh doesn't bring a substantial speed bump it's just pointless IMO :shadedshu:

Honestly i'm expecting this to be just better silicon with slightly higher clocks, if AMD has them then sure go ahead and release it.

However for most people you are better off just waiting for Zen 3 in Q3-Q4 of this year if you are on a 400 or 500 series chipset.

I can guess what the 3850X would be—either a higher clocked 3800X or a lower clocked 3900X, but what about the 3750X? There’s not much room between the 3700X and 3800X as it is. Or is it just the 3700X with a higher TDP so it can boost longer?

Either simple clock bump due to improvements in yield after 10 or 11 months of producing dies, or 4+0 + 4+0 because they have some higher binned dies than needed for 3300X, but won't do higher cores of 3900X, 3950X or golden bins of TR / EPYC.

Which ever it is, they're doing it because they can and because more SKUs = better. That's the whole m.o. of their modular approach.

Intel wish they could do this.

Wouldn't it be crazy if these are the chips in the Xbox1 and PS5?

I doubt it since those chips have less clock speed than the normal 3700X / 3800X

Don't be fooled that AMD will do anything on N6 process then if it's inferior.

Can you develop an argument that supports this statement? 6nm is better than the 7nm DUV used in zen 2, but is inferior to the 7nm+ EUV process. Porting the current generation to 6nm would be a pretty easy upgrade to AMD, as it doesn't require the creation of new die masks (which cost many millions). Plus, When asked about the possibility of a Zen2 refresh, Mark Papermaster replied this:

"MP: I have nothing to say on any refresh on current designs, but we always look at where it makes sense and where we’re able to take opportunities to provide a bump in performance, power, or die area. " https://www.anandtech.com/show/1526...-mark-papermaster-theres-more-room-at-the-top

3 months before the release of Ryzen 4000, it is absolutely pointless to bring salvaged parts.
Better bring Renoir with higher performance.

Nothing gets lost in the proces of creating wafers. Extract as many as possible, working chips out of it. They have a contract remember. They cant just throw the non 8 core working bits out of it. They are resold, rebadged just as Intel does with it's million CPU's.
