Existing owners of the game on Steam will continue to receive updates and support, but going forwards all new players will have to install the game from the Epic Games Store.

The summer update will also bring a new cross-platform progression system that will require an Epic Games Store account to use, this will finally let users access their items, rankings, and rocket pass progression across all platforms. Current owners of the game will receive all the DLC released for the game when it goes free-to-play along with an "Est. 20XX" title which displays the year they purchased the game.

Update: Psyonix has confirmed that Rocket League will be released as a free game later this month. In a tweet and trailer posted this afternoon, the developer said the price change will take effect on Wednesday, September 23.

Psyonix also announced that the update will be released tomorrow, September 16, "to prepare Rocket League for the free to play transition. This update will allow players to link their platforms to their Epic accounts to enable cross-platform progression, provide long-time players with their legacy items, and introduce Rocket League to the Epic Creator's support program."

Hey, actually, it's great that RL is going to be free to play because that means that this game will be popular for more time. I want to advise you something if you are a newbie. First of all, I want to advise you to watch some videos on Youtube about this game in order to be able to understand how does this game works. Also, I advise you to use special sites for buying items because the prices there are usually cheaper. Personally, I found out this site for buying items for RL, I've never had any issues with payment, it's easy to use so don't worry about it.
