LG Display is a public company that produces LCD and OLED panels for LG and other manufacturers. These OLED screens are used in all manner of devices ranging from phones to 88" TVs. The OLED panels are well regarded for their image quality and characteristics and as such can be found in various high-end monitors and TVs including the recently released 48CX Gaming TV.

LG Display currently produces 70,000 8.5th generation OLED panels per month at its production plant in Paju, Korea. This capacity will almost double to 130,000 sheets monthly with the addition of their new OLED panel production plant in Guangzhou, China. This new plant will be able to further increase production to 160,000 panels monthly when their is sufficient market demand. The 8.5th generation OLED panels measure 2,200 mm x 2,500 mm each which allows LG to produce it's 88" TV but can also fit over 500 phone screens per panel depending on the configuration.

You're not wrong but the connection you make in this topic is pretty weird, don't you think?

A vast portion of these production lines are used to serve Western markets. Boycot China, sure. No OLED for you. So I'd rather say, boycot LG if you really want to make a dent.

Yup, still looking at my TV with its burnt LEDs waiting to nab one of these. It seems they haven't reached Europe at all (amazon.de or amazon.co.uk don't list them, not even as "out of stock").
I almost bit the bullet and got the CX 55, but I'm not comfortable with the price and at 55" I wouldn't be comfortable without a wall mount either.

We need smaller sizes, the state of monitors is pitiful, the quality is awful and the prices are stupidly high, some brands sell their garbage for more than a 55" OLED. We need Samsung to make a comeback to OLED and stop wasting time with their useless QLED.

Monitors are different beasts, I don't think there's room for discussing them in a thread about TVs.

We had 55" OLED TVs for about 1k for a while

Why is it so hard to roll out 24-32" OLED Monitors with lower than 4k resolutions...

I doubt that. LGs are ~$2k and everyone uses their panels.

Why is it so hard to roll out 24-32" OLED Monitors with lower than 4k resolutions...
The answer is literally in the article: capacity limitations. Plus that thing where OLED doesn't like static UIs.

This would break the behind-the-scenes agreements with game & GPU developers who are set on continuing to push higher & higher resolutions and larger sized screens onto users, and therefore would affect their ASP/margins/profits really quickly...

THIS is the REAL reason behind not making the smaller models... 'cause as usual, moolah is king, everything else is just bling bling for your zing zing ......:D

I am also in the "f*ck China" camp, and flat out refuse to buy anything made there, electronics or otherwise...

Right. And the (now defunct) E9 should be even cheaper.
B9's problem however is that C9 is only 100-200 euros more.

Speaking of CX, where the hell are BX's?
Not even on the horizon, so they'll only show up around Christmas. And it makes sense, if you can't make enough panels, you put those you can make in SKUs that you can sell for more.
It would be hilarious if LG announces the next year's lineup before BX hits the stores though.

55" C9 is mostly sold out, only 3 stores carry the 55" over here, one of them limits that even further to selected retail shops.

How does the pixel size/density change when going from 85in OLED TV to 500 phone screens from the same sheet? Are they physically different types of mother-glass?

I was wondering the same, especially with the argument against making 24"-32" screens at a lower resolution. It makes zero sense.

I beg to differ, the panel technology is the same, and here we are talking about panels not the TVs themselves.

Most of these panels are made in Korea, and TVs assembled in Mexico/Malaysia/vietnam but OK.

Mine is doing pretty well. I'm of the opinion that is majorly overhyped these days.

Here comes the shitty quality oled made in China that will be worse than the Korean one.

I'm pretty sure they already have their own domestic product for that, but yes, I did indeed miss that part of the article:

This capacity will almost double to 130,000 sheets monthly with the addition of their new OLED panel production plant in Guangzhou, China..

Quality stuff can come out of China with oversight. Let's hope this is one such case.

It's the first thing I thought. F*ck China.
Yet no one will do a damn thing about that, out of sight out of mind

People still complain about paying that $5 extra when buying clothing, a lot of them made in China, whilst spending $50 (or more) per person in restaurants, theatres et al. If you really want to do something about it then yes as Vayra86 said stop buying their products but more importantly stop paying slave trade prices because you damn well know that someone eventually pays for it!
