Halo Infinite Delayed Until 2021

343 Industries have recently announced that Halo Infinite will be delayed from a November 2020 launch to a as of yet unknown 2021 launch date. This comes as a major blow to the Xbox Series X which was planned to have Halo Infinite as a headliner launch title. The team explained how COVID-19 had introduced new development challenges and that the extra time will allow them to complete critical work on the game. Hopefully this delay will bring a better, more polished Halo title.

Chris Lee 343 Industries Studio Head said:
The decision to shift our release is the result of multiple factors that have contributed to development challenges, including the ongoing COVID-related impacts affecting us all this year. I want to acknowledge the hard work from our team at 343 Industries, who have remained committed to making a great game and finding solutions to development challenges. However, it is not sustainable for the well-being of our team or the overall success of the game to ship it this holiday.

Yeah. they've seen developers pull the same shit too many times and they know people will come for them and burn their house down if they release a mobile port as a PC game.

Good on Microsoft. Id rather see games delayed then being released in a really awful state even if its a live service model. Live Service type games are a cancer to the industry and too many publishers use it as an excuse to make you pay to play half developed games with the lie that they'll fix all the game breaking bugs and add more content as they go....rarely does both ever happen at the same time.

Deciding to make it a cross gen game comes back to bite them in the ass.

What they showed looked like a game that had been developed 80% for Xbox One/X with only the native 4K/60fps part of the development, for Xbox Series X.

As a massive Halo fan, I'm bummed I won't see John 'Halo Guy' Halo duking it out with the space monkeys this holiday, but it's for the best.

The demo very clearly showed the game is far from ready, and a delay was utterly necessary in this case. Knowing they actually jeopardize the entire Series X launch just to appease fans is very sweet of 343, but it's also a bit worrying for the Xbox brand. Right now, what launch-day exclusive Xbox title is even there to entice people to buy the Series? "The Medium"?
On the other hand, launching the game in that state might have deterred people more than not launching it at all this holiday.
At least we have MCC to tide us over. Halo 3's still a very fun game and I find myself spending most of my time gaming on that collection right now. Even with the wonky netcode, Halo 3's multiplayer is still more fun than most modern FPS games.

Given the state of the demo shown on the console, I reckon they got bigger problems.

Did they actually show it on the console or on a PC?

They confirmed it was running on a PC that was equivalent to a Series X in specs.

Somehow, that's even worse.

Like many I was very disappointed by the demo, they could've avoided all embarrassment by saying it was running on an Xbox One X because at best it was a One X game.

I don't think its an understatement to say that this delay is potentially catastrophic. History has consistently shown that system launches are a strong indicator of the financial performance/market share of a system. Halo is the most significant title in Microsoft's catalog, and a legit system seller. For it to get pushed back out of the holiday window may have a ripple effect that permeates the entire life of the console.

Halo 4 art looks miles better than what this garbage was from both Art and Graphics standpoint. Gameplay was also more of a generic style shooter. Halo 5 was the last engine that they had under since Halo Combat Evolved from Bungie days, I think that was canned now and they re-used some assets. And then we have 343i and MS doing virtue signalling campaigns more than ever, and not actually care about their IPs, Gears of War 4 was the start and they completely ruined that franchise with Gears 5, some say it's a great UE4 showcase but if you see videos on how after 5 secs everything in the game disappears and has some awful pixelated reflections, it's bad. Story became even worse than Gears of War 4, then the whole atmosphere is lost as well. Fable is done, AOE is done as well. Halo 5 was a disaster.

Now what does MS have ? Most powerful console ever but doesn't have a proper launch title which is made by their own damn team. A big shame. Although their masterplan is having that GaaS BS, their Xbox gamepass is doing good on PC, many don't care to own games or mod them sadly. Xcloud is coming as well, their Halo Infinite PR was like last Halo and it will be more of a like platform, GaaS in making, Free to Play MP for Halo Infinite with Teen rating for more audience, more MTX GaaS. They lost this gen again. Sony is going to take it all but the biggest loss is from the studio which made AOE, Halo, Gears of War to this zero.
