Sid Meier's Civilization VI is the latest turn-based strategy in the series launching back in 2016, the game has made its way onto various platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and now Android. The game is available through the Google Play store as shareware with a 20 USD fee to play past turn 60, "Rise and Fall" and "Gathering Storm" expansions are also available for 30 USD and 40 USD respectively. There are a variety of scenario packs also available for 5-9 USD, this pricing is consistent across mobile versions.

The game has received mixed to positive reviews mainly due to compatibility issues, the game requires a modern device to run smoothly especially in the late game. The animations have been simplified or removed along with the addition of a 30fps frame rate cap to help improve performance which given the genre is fine.

Why would I want to play this on a 6.4" screen with 1080p resolution, when I can play it on a 27" screen with 4K resolution?
Also and much more importantly, why would I want to pay twice for this game? The mobile devices price is outrageous imho.

$90 for a shitty mobile port of a 4 year old game? Can't tell if it's 2K going numb in the brain or just Firaxis with their regular poo brain.

It's called business.

If it cost them less to port the game to mobile, than the amount they would earn from sales, then it's a positive business case.

Why people buy an overpriced and severely crippled port of an years-old game is another story, i.e. some haz the dumb.

I just tried it on my tablet, not seeing any issues. Granted, it'll run better on a PC, but it's not bad for gaming on the go.

Runs fine on an iPad Pro (2020). Not sure about the other console/mobile ports though.

Because you can’t put your 27” 4K display in a bag and play everywhere.

Sure, but a game like Civ needs a high resolution, large display imho. It's not a game I would want to play on a phone.
I can't even imagine the turn time on something like your iPad, it must take a good five minutes between turns once you've played for an hour or two.

So, someone can pay over 20 dollars to have the chance to destroy the battery in their mobile device much faster than before? :p

It could be an option for those who love CIV and at the same time can restrict themselves into playing a small number of turns here and there.
For people who would stay in front of the screen for hours, it's probably a very bad idea.

I agree with this point. However....

...Playing it on a tablet in not horrible. It ran fine on mine(see specs) and that is a few years old with a custom OS. For those people always on the go who either don't have or don't want a laptop, this is a good option.

No, is. That kind of game. Turn based, so you don't have to react to anything in real time, and it's hex (or whatever shape is uses) which makes it easier to place stuff and do movements and so on. Make the UI decent and that kind of game is perfect to a phone or tablet. I don't know if this UI is good though. And you say it's alright.

Right, but not perfect. It's solid and playable. However, touchscreens are not perfect for this kind of game. I would still prefer a mouse over touch all day, any day. But with mobile that's not often a thing. So the way it is, it works.

I can agree that its not preferable on a phone, but on a larger-screen tablet like an iPad Pro or the Galaxy Tab S6, it works out fine. The turn times late game can be anywhere from 4 to 7 minutes.
