Hitman 3 to be an Epic Games Store Exclusive on the PC Platform

IO Interactive revealed that Hitman 3, the next chapter in the stealth assassin sim, will be exclusively available on the Epic Games Store, for the PC platform. This marks a departure from over a decade of Hitman releases on Steam, including its most recent entry, the 2018 Hitman 2. Hitman 3, like the previous two titles since the franchise's 2016 reboot, will be a collection of locale-specific missions that are loosely interconnected by a storyline. With Hitman 3 transitioning to Epic Games Store, it will be interesting to see if the game retains the seamless campaign experience of Hitman 2, which let you play forward from Hitman 2016 missions, onward to new missions from Hitman 2. IOI Announced that Hitman 3 arrives in January 2021.



Update 06:40 UTC: Turns out, that the EGS exclusivity is for 12 months only. Want the game on Steam? Wait until January 2022.

There's no anti competition, Epic isn't stealing anyone's money like the OS holders. The platform is windows, the store is Epic, Steam has games only on Steam also. EA has games only on Origin etc. Instead of Epic stealing money ala Sony or Apple or Google, Epic is PAYING developers money for it. Paying the people who are developing the game instead of stealing from them, and you have the gall to compare it.

Yep like I've always said there was nothing wrong with craftsman tools at sears Martha Stewart collection at k-mart or any other designer brand exclusively selling their new products in the stores willing to pay them the most.

The stores missing out probably could have made a deal of their own with them but chose not to. Just because everyone wants it amd it's hot doesn't mean it should be available everywhere for sell.

The stores without need to either fix for next time or go out andn make their own even more beneficial deals.


If you can go to Walmart you can go to Kmart or sears at least in pc gaming the difference really just comes down to a different spot you click on your screen.

I believe this has already been confirmed, though begs to see how this will work across launchers. Unless Epic has Steam profile linking. [Edit: IOI have confirmed everything (saves, unlocks, etc) can carry over from Steam to Epic.

IMO Epic's actions are slimy, and the recent display with Apple/Google has only reinforced that tenfold; Yet another title I will be waiting an additional year for. This one hits me hard though.
I can only pray STALKER 2 wont succumb to their pockets. And don't get me started on Remedy {edit: thanks for the correction} 505 Games trying to triple dip with Control.

$60 through EPIC store
$55 directly through the developers website, so it "Benefits the developer and the consumer"

This has nothing to do with anti-competition, Hitman 3 may very well have never happened (they admitted they were struggling with finances), they were hurting for money to stay afloat. Steam and Gabe never offered to help, someone else did. I for one am glad Epic is helping them stay afloat with exclusivity rights, otherwise this game probably wouldn't exist.

In almost all of those cases Sony and Nintendo financed the development of the game or outright own the studios. Epic pays for a finished product a month before release.

It's still promised money, enough I imagine where they felt they could confidently make Hitman 3 without too much worry. That makes the difference between this game existing and not existing. You got to do what you got to do.

I don't really understand all the hate. AAA titles sell for 40-50 quid in the UK, there's no real benefit to hanging about waiting for Steam, which is, after all, another market platform. As mentioned, EPIC pay huge sums to those involved (wonder what the dev/publisher split is?). They also started the price war with terms to %'s taken at point of sale. I've got EPIC, Origin, Bethesda, Uplay, and Steam available. I didnt like the idea at first but once installed, it's hardly an inconvenience. I dont see any benefit to sticking to one store - the prices are all similar. What I've got from EPIC is free games, and huge discounts on games (AC Odyssey for about £5). I paid for EA Access and got three AAA's in one year (paid for itself). Steam's lost it's... steam, I feel. Pioneered the system, then got munched by the competition. If I had to rate the players, I think EPIC's better than Origin. I got Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam (via CD Keys). I don't see a problem, given this was where the market was headed. If anything, this competition between players looks to be injecting interest into PC market; more and more Sony & XBox transitions are occuring. Companies, such as EPIC, make the PC market too hard to ignore for Publishers that relied solely on the consoles. Well, that's just my take.

Frankly, Steam (courtesy of Valve) let so many people (of my generation, you old farts) down when it stopped it's franchises of Half-Life and L4D. Okay, the VR Alex game is there but it's a cynical toe-dip in the water for the technology.

Imagine; not having to have 5+ game launchers that you have to manage the whole time. Gog galaxy? It still launches the other game launchers to open that specific game, using precious resources. I don't see them helping me to upgrade to run all their crap. Am I saying Valve is doing the right thing? Anti-competition can cover many areas, and exclusive titles for no good reason is in my opinion also anti-competitive. As you have correctly pointed out, games for PC could launch in any platforms, but by paying or giving incentive to game developers so that you can keep a title to your store is basically to give yourself an edge. Which I feel is a form of anti competition. Competition means everyone sells the same thing, so you differentiate by either marketing, or price, etc... In this case, EPIC is paying game developers and asking for exclusivity to sell on their store. Apple and Google is paying for the development/ maintenance of iOS and Android, which no developers are paying for. So I think it is fair for app developers to contribute to Google/ Apple, because their store is drawing in the crowd for the app developer to sell. As to how much, whatever % they quote, they will not be able to please everyone all the time.

Also I disagree that Google and Apple are "stealing" money from game developers. The developers agreed to the T&C. Nobody is pointing a gun to their head. Developers ain't stupid as well. If they know there are benefits to be in the store, they will then agree to Apple/ Google's T&C.

If I need to make it clearer, imagine you spent your money and effort to open a store. After some time, it is very successful and people are queuing to buy things from your store. Someone then comes in, open up a booth in your shop to ride on the traffic so that they get the opportunity to sell their wares. What would you do? Let them continue for free, chase them out or charge them rental? People appear self righteous, criticizing others about what they think is wrong. But when it happens to you, not everyone will do it differently from who you are criticizing. You don't have to answer here because you yourself will know the answer.

this actually kinda sucks. I know it sounds silly but I like my Steam achievements and prefer to have my games there.

Other launchers, Rockstar, Uplay, Origin, each for only a few games. RDR2, Assassin's Creed and South Park games, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.

Now lets add another. Literally 5 game launchers I'll need to have. People are right, it is annoying to have so many on your single PC. Not enough of a huge issue to make it sway a buy/don't buy decision for me personally, but it doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth either, its quite sour actually
