Synology has recently announced the 5-bay DiskStation DS1520+ NAS, as a replacement for the DiskStation DS1019+. The DS1520+ NAS features a quad-core Intel Celeron J4125 clocked at 2.0 GHz base and 2.7 GHz boost, paired with 8 GB DDR4 memory. This processor upgrade should offer a roughly 20% performance increase in responsiveness and indexing. The DiskStation DS1520+ supports 80 TB raw internal storage along with dual Dual M.2 2280 NVMe SSD cache slots. The DiskStation DS1520+ can be expanded to 15 bays with the DX517 and features quad gigabit Ethernet ports with Link Aggregation / Failover support. The DS1520+ is targeted towards home and small office environments and will likely retail for a similar price of the DS1019+.

We're in 2020 and they're still using those processors:banghead:

I'm not sure why they shouldn't use that CPU? It is low power, good enough performance and functionality for a NAS. Sure, the Goldmont is from 2017 and J4125 was released the end of 2019 but what else could Synology use, Tremont are still not available for these kind of systems.

But I think this unit are missing out on only having Gbit NICs, would be nicer with 2.5Gbit.

it has link aggregation which boosts bandwidth. Maybe not 2.5gb speeds but close enough.

I don't see anything wrong with using the Celeron J4125 its the Atom SoC that I find unacceptable in 2020 for a NAS. Its also bothersome to see that Synology makes it difficult to get an 8 bay NAS with a Celeron J4125.

2, 4, 5 and 6 bay maybe but not 8 bays. If you want 8 bays you get a Atom C3000 series SoC,...
