NVIDIA themselves have shared performance slides for their imminent RTX 3090 graphics card, the new halo product that's been marketed as the new Titan. Previous-gen Titans have achieved extremely meager performance uplifts compared to NVIDIA's top-of-the-line cards (see RTX 2080 Ti vs RTX Titan, an average of 8% performance difference in favor of the Titan. According to the company, users should expect a slightly higher performance uplift this time around, though the 10-15% higher performance in 4K still seems meager - in pure price/performance terms - for the average consumer.

The average consumer who isn't the main focus for this graphics card and its gargantuan 24 GB of GDDR6X memory, anyway - this is more aimed at the semi-professional or professional crowds working with specialized software, whether it be in rendering or AI-based workloads. The RTX 3090 is thus not so much a product for the discerning computer enthusiast, but more of a halo product for gamers, and a crucial product for professionals and academics.

The meager performance difference also raises the question of an RTX 3080 Ti being launched with more silicon differences other than a doubling of memory to 20 GB. If the RTX 3090's 20% increase in on-chip resources (10,496 vs 8704 CUDA cores) offers a 10-15% performance uplift against the RTX 3080 (with an almost doubling in price, from $699 to $1,499), then that is the ceiling for the performance increase we can expect from a RTX 3080 Ti/SUPER. There isn't as much space in NVIDIA's product stack for another high-performance product as we might expect based on pricing and execution units. The one call to fame the card has is its 8K DLSS support - but it remains to be seen how relevant this becomes (this editor's bet? Not much at all). Rest assured - we'll be providing you with our usual in-depth performance reviews for NVIDIA's latest (and biggest) brainchild available in the consumer space.

3090 doesn't have fully enabled chip. For now this is the top notch but I think we can expect something faster.

~8% more perf for over twice the price. I know what you have to be to buy this thing, but I won't say it here.

But it sure seems that nVidia have a perf scaling issue on this architecture, looks like Samsung really is a crap foundry, at least for what nVidia needs.

For professional users, I can see the value in the 3090, much cheaper than the alternatives.

...but for gamers, these cards are nothing more than a vanity induced status symbol, a trophy item so they can go online, to places like this and shout to the world 'Look at me, I have money to burn, losers'

Yeah, it doesn't matter, 3090 will be unobtanium, and not only at launch. It's a product designed to secure the top space in benchmarks, price and practicallity are irrelevant.

You're ignoring the fact it comes with 24 GB VRAM and SLI support. It's not really designed for gamers.

Apparently there will be a 20GB 3080, is that one not for gamers as well ?

If so, I imagine it'd be a 3080 Super, which would be for gamers. It would be better being 16 GB, surely?

Stop being special.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but first of all, its called GeForce. A name they use for everything gaming related.
Second, Nvidia clearly marketed this card for gaming:

This is how they marketed a card not meant for gaming:

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

Finally, someone using their head knowing who they're primarily marketed towards....

This is a Titan (in geforce skin - marketing), people.... a crossover card. Pull your collective heads out of your....the sand. :p
This is how they marketed a card not meant for gaming:
What... the same way? Look....and understand the context of which they are speaking of in regards to gaming.

From Nvidia....(note an extreme gamer is how they define it....8k).

I really don't understand what everyone's problem is with the price... Yes, it's $1500. Do you have to buy it? Absolutely not. As it was widely speculated, the performance increase of the 3090 over the 3080 was going to be small. Even if we assume it's able to scale linearly, which it won't, 20% more performance over an already powerful card is not really relevant. It's not like Nvidia is gatekeeping some amazing next level of performance, like 50% or more above the 3080, behind that $1500 price. 99.999% of people will never want this card, never be able to afford it, and even if they did, they wouldn't even have a proper use case for it. So... who cares? The 3090 is an irrelevant product. Why is everyone's panties in a bunch?

How many of you actually do professional work like 8K video or 3D rendering? AI research, perhaps? Some, but not many, and if you do, you can write the card off as a tax deductible, or your employer will buy it for your workstation at no cost to you. I'm not even going to mention 8K gaming, because that's not really even a thing... And if you can afford an 8K TV, you can also afford a 3090.

I suspect that this is an ego thing for some people, because they want to have 'T3H B3ST' and they are getting mad they can't afford to buy it so they can have e-peen points on the internet. If this is a legitimate issue for you... Well, I don't know if you have your priorities straight.

Just ignore the 3090. It is of no legitimate relevance to almost anyone. Why get mad over a product?

I'm sure most of the people who REALLY want something, and don't live in a 3rd world country or in poverty, can scrape 1500$. Once you see prices in other expensive hobbies, PC gaming isn't really that unreachable.

GeForce RTX 3090, A “BFGPU” For Creators, Researchers and Extreme Gamers, Launches Thursday
When you go the the official product page for 3090 you are greeted by the pic I just posted.
And then when you go down, the feature list is:
DLSS - gaming
Raytracing - gaming
8K HDR gaming - well that one is clear
Victory measured in milliseconds - gaming
And after all of those comes "creativity" part: "Take your creative projects to a new level with GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs. Delivering AI-acceleration in top creative apps. Backed by the NVIDIA Studio platform of dedicated drivers and exclusive tools. And built to perform in record time. Whether you’re rendering complex 3D scenes, editing 8K video, or livestreaming with the best encoding and image quality, GeForce RTX GPUs give you the performance to create your best."

If you go to the TITAN RTX product page the feature list is:
TITAN RTX powers AI, machine learning, and creative workflows.
Start AI Development Now
Accelerate Data Science
Power Your Creativity
And the final one is NVLink, and it says:
"The result is an effective doubling of memory capacity to 48 GB, so that you can train neural networks faster, process even larger datasets, and work with some of the biggest rendering models."
Not once are words game or gaming mentioned.

3090 is clearly meant for gaming first and everything else after. If it truly was a Titan replacement they would talk about AI, rendering, ML and so on, not DLSS...

Probably a 3080 with 16gb of vram would've cannibalised the 3090.
Ampere's looking much less appealing after the reviews and especially the price, given that the official price ranges between 800-850$.

If the 3090's performance only 10-15% higher than the 3080, than we can very much expect the 3080 20G to outperform the 3080 10G by less than 8%.
