Engadget has posted details about Dell's next gen XPS 420 system. The XPS 420 will be bigger, badder and better equipped:
  • Core 2 Duo, Extreme, or Quad (up to 8MB) processor options
  • Intel X38 Express chipset, DDR2 800 (up to 8GB)
  • MiniView LCD 3 x 2-inch QVGA display (runs SideShow on the front, picture after the break)
  • Dell Xcelerator - dedicated media coprocessor for transcoding video streams to MPEG-4 formats. Can cut encode time on a 2 hour HD movie in half and use far fewer CPU cycles.
  • SATA II (with RAID 0 or 1 support)
  • PCI Express x16, Gigabit Ethernet
  • 2x front USB, 6x rear, 2x internal; one front and rear 1394; one eSATA, frontal audio ports

Nice specs, but I like the old case better.

What the hell is an Xcelerator? Does it really work? Can you get it retail?

WOW  It's got a lcd on the case  It has to be worth.......1 million dollar's :shadedshu

Lol at dell :wtf:

wow i havnt seen a cocpu since...well wow...since AT cases really

think they will retail those well lemmee rephrase that dell wont sell them  think whomever made it for dell will sell them?

The only thing I like is the case.

LOLZ, looks like another PC for members of "The View" to look at pics/home movies with, and E-mail G-ma about them.

:toast:

Wow that's fugly.

i have an xps 400 which is fair enough except for the fact that it is restricted to only to p4/pD cpus and my cpu run at a core voltage of 3.02volts, rest assured this xps 420 will be very limited for upgrading in the very near future, i wouldn't recommend any dell system to anyone who can find the components cheaper themselves.

I've worked on this system today at a client's house. It's tool-less. But it seemed to be a lilttle weak to hold those PCI add-on cards.

Yay, more overpriced high-end hardware from Dell that will never unleash its full potential due to crappy motherboards and nooby users who were dumb enough to buy an XPS rather than build it themselves :shadedshu

That case has to much going on for my liking, and i dont like the blue plastic inside and with the money that will cost surely they could have came up with a solution like the P182 for all the cables hanging around.

[[and off topic but speaking of crappy motherboreds, who killed all the good nf4 939 mobo's :( ]]

Geez guys, stop bashing dell, the fact that you enthusiasts think that the general consumer will want to buy your systems that you build is VERY Naive. Honestly, most consumers who buy from these "unknown companies" have balls of steel, i've seen a "custom builder's" system and if i was a normal consumer, i WOULD NOT BUY IT. Dell makes sure the system works, have a second thought about it guys.

umm........... NO
I've had a good look at retail pc's over the past few years & all of em are shit for the price u can make ur own... my new PC that i'll have next week is better than this thing......

couldn't agree more... everyone who i know that has bought a dell hates it now, coz they spent a ton for a ton of crap.

so i say :nutkick: to Dell

Is this a fancy way of saying that Dell is getting into the graphics card business ;).

we bought my mom a xps 410...

and the best thing about it is that it has some bad ass cooling... these have probably one of the best air cooling setups possible

from the pic it has a big ass cooler for damn sure

from the pic it has a big ass cooler for damn sure

Standard BTX cooler actually. We have a dell at home that's BTX and it has that kind of cooler.

 its bigger than mine
