Some of the best companies in the world do that. Sometimes you gotta put in the extra effort.

Still doesn't make it a positive thing though. Necessary evil, at the very best.

yeah…. especially if you take into consideration that in the EU the Standard Holiday is About 20 days a year (up to 30 --- here in Germany where I live everyone >30 years of age will have 30 days/year if you didn't completely screw up your contract and work for a shady Company :) ).

Also, like it was stated, if we talk About 6 to 20 days of "over time" in a year (or here compared to the complete dev-cycle) it's not really that big of a deal AND decently compensated (yes, they could get an extra Bonus and would deserve it, but even the "by law" compensation is already decent :) )

would be nice to live in a first world country unlike america. my dad has been security guard for 4 years not one single day off and has to work holidays, he only started accumulating vacation days in year 2. 3 per year, but unable to take them. i just started a new job and i get 5 days per year vacation, after 3 years it goes to 10. lol

Never really understood people lining up for Green cards anyway. OTOH, Fortress Europe isn't exactly easy to get into either lately... but with risk of sounding arrogant, I do think we've got our principles and rules/protections in good order over here, and looking to continue to do so.

The US... is fast looking like a superpower ready to fall. The cracks were there for decades... no amount of duct tape can help it now

Unfortunately, our "rules/protections" cost us half of our revenue or more in various taxes. And that's before VAT which is usually double the sales tax in the US.
I've worked for companies over in the US, people there were treated much better than we were over here (not that we weren't treated fairly). Of course, there are rotten apples everywhere.

But I feel we've drifted a little from the topic.

Yeah, let's not dive deeper, there is way too much to be said on this and it can't end well :D

I do agree on not liking the overall taxation level. But nobody does, anywhere I reckon

I'm not saying it's fun. Just that sometimes, not all the time, it's required. I've had to do it, the pay was good, but the 12hour days sucked. That lasted three weeks. Of course in that situation it was 15years ago and we were short staffed.

In the case of CDPR, they're getting ready for a AAA game release. Different situation but same need, all hands on deck for extra time to get the project done one time.

My experience is that its still happening way too often and way too easily everywhere. And they're not as keen to say 'hey take a day off' when there's nothing to do either.

I thought you were happy with all the protections we have over here in Europe :p

I had forced overtime for over 20 years. The money was good and helped me with retirement goals, but it also ensured I didn’t stay. Burnout is all too real when every work day is ten minimum hours (frequently 11 or 12) plus 2 hour round trip commute. I can sympathize with game dev workers. You get to a point you just don’t care because they have turned you into a zombie.

And yes that is him.
With respect, but does the perscription on your glasses need renewing? That image is not Keanu Reeves, at best its a facimily of the character from the game.

In any case, it addresses why he is on the Gold announcement, no matter how well he was rendered.

"Gone GOLD" ... I didn't heard this expression for a long time, maybe since digital distribution took over.

The phrase still applies as this game is going to be on physical media in some regions. However, in most cases the phrase "Gone Gold" means it's been deemed ready for release.

Yes. i remember it was been used wildly in times when big news was that game publishers are sending
CD/DVD to factory to multiply it :)
