NVIDIA could update the higher end of its GeForce RTX 30-series "Ampere" product stack with two new additions in December 2020. Sources tell VideoCardz that the company is preparing to launch a 20 GB variant of the GeForce RTX 3080, and a 16 GB variant of the RTX 3070. The RTX 3080 20 GB will come with double the memory of the RTX 3080 the company debuted last month, over the same 320-bit wide GDDR6X memory interface, possibly by using two 8 Gbit memory chips per 32-bit path (which is how the RTX 3090 achieves 24 GB, over its 384-bit memory bus). The RTX 3070 16 GB will likely use a similar approach, albeit with GDDR6 memory. Meanwhile, the mid-range "RTX 3060 Ti" could debut in November, following the late-October introduction of the RTX 3070 8 GB. Much of NVIDIA's product stack adjustments could be in preparation for AMD's late-October reveal of the Radeon RX 6000 RDNA2 series.

I wonder if memory speeds will be the same on the 16 and 20 GB cards or if the bus will have to be slower because of the additional chips.

The 3080 20GB will need a higher power target to keep performance identical to the 10GB. Those memory chips need quite a bit of power.
The 3070 16GB won't necessarily have additional chips because unlike GDDR6X, GDDR6 is also available in 16Gb packages.

How is the product any perfect lol. This gen is worse than Fermi lol
On paper it is perfect, performance for all, at 1/3 of the price. Then Nvidia happens, as always.
Can't wait for the paper launch drivers from AMD.

Find it weird, it is only memory so why wait and also why make a so called "launch", why do Nvidia have to have a date for 20GB version.

Specs for 20GB has been ready since long before launch so why not let partners do 20GB at launch.

Find it somewhat disturbing the 20GB was not offered from the get go, specially since there are games that easily gobble up 10GB VRAM in 4K already.

3080 is a multi year investment and I bet 10GB will start to feel really cramped within the next couple of years if you want to max out GFX settings.

What are those games and is it necessary to have more than 10GB or the games just use more because there is more? I'm really skeptic about the more Vram even in 4k.

As has been stated a gajilintilion times, VRAM reported use is not actual use. A game can allocate all 10GB of VRAM but actually use a whole lot less. Currently there are no games I know of that actually is bottlenecked with 10GB, even at maxed out 4K. Modding (8K textures, for example) is a different story.

Let's see...
· Mostly-paper launch a GeForce RTX 3080 10GB model at a theoretical $700 MSRP, but actually produce just enough cards for reviewers and eBay scalpers selling them for $1400.
· Add $100 worth of GDDR6X to make the RTX 3080 20GB and price it at $1200 MSRP before we release a significant volume of GA102 GPUs.
· (MORE) Profit!

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
The 3070 16GB could be an actually decent card to get that has a future-proof amount of VRAM and sensible price + power draw.

More than 250W is a hard nope for a daily driver and $700+ is way too far outside of the mainstream price point (which is $275 or so, taking an inflation-adjusted median and average over the last two decades)

I doubt it will be cheap, if 8/10 GB GDDR6(x) costs say $100 then the card price will be at least $200 more. This applies to both the 3070 & the 3080, moreover with 16GB VRAM who know if the TDP or TBP will be good enough for it to be considered over the stock 3080 cards.

Now the rumored 3070Ti with 16GB GDDR6 would probably be worth the extra $200 but it's supposedly cancelled now!

Since most games will be made with PS5 and XBox Series X in mind, I doubt the 10GB of VRAM will ever be a bottleneck for the next 5 years, at least (I don't say 10, because nowadays Sony and Microsoft release updated consoles mid-cycle, like the PS4 Pro and XBox One X).

I'll get the 10GB 3080, when I can get my hands on it. If I can't get it before the 20GB version comes out, I'll consider it, if it's not more expensive than 100$. If it is, I prefer to sve that money and invest in a new GPU a few years from now. By then, we'll know if we really need the extra VRAM and there will be better GPUs.

The RTX 30 series gives me the feeling of it was a "paper" launch and after Nvidia confirmed that there won't be enough stock until 2021 it feels like they just had to get it out no matter the cost because AMD is announcing RDNA2 and Nvidia wouldn't want to be like we won't have anything until 2021...

Instead of making sure that there could be enough stock and not this BS where you cannot find cards anywhere expect being buying a lot of overprice on ebay and so on.

I don't think there will be additional chips. but rather higher density ones. Still leaves the question what these will do to price and power draw.
