For what I have read the Dedicated GPU memory stat shows memory in use, not just allocated.
GPU-Z also has a GPU memory usage stat that seems to report a value a bit higher than windows.

Games will try to use as much VRAM as possible, though the GPU might not have enough horsepower to benefit from bigger VRAM pool, Radeon VII is a prime example.

There have yet to be a case that 10GB is limiting the 3080 GPU, there might be case when RTX is in use, however all RTX games will come with DLSS. So why worry about a problem when there are solution already in place.

"work smarter, not harder"

If you say there were few DLSS game, there are far fewer game that actually requires 10GB VRAM or more (0 right now).

It means they are certain RDNA 2 isnt a threat

Not to sure about that, this BS launch(s) has put me right of nVidia cards, they were not ready to launch it but they did as AMD threat. If they actually thought AMD were not threat they would not of launched the 30k series.

Much much cheaper? Has a price been released yet? Amd could be same price for all we know. Look at the cpu side. Current releases are priced higher because they know that they are competitive now. I know that the gpu side hasn't had a win in a long while, but many consumers don't differentiate, they just see "AMD"
Do you believe that 6900XT or whatever name will be, is going to cost 1100~1200$? Because I dont think so. Its because its going to cost around 3080 or less, nVidia forced to cancel the 20GB versions, that planned to charge a $h1tload of money (2080Ti like) for that 20GB with 2% more perf and no real value over 3080. Just like the 3090 with no titan drivers available to it, or any kind of special drivers what so ever. Other than the 24GB has nothing over 3080. Its not a titan, nVidia was never clear about what really is and tried to mislead users.

I really am astounded by Jensen's marketing and how he has confuses people once more. If he was honest and real he would give a 2080Ti replacement with more VRAM than 11GB and a Titan form the beginning, end of story... not a "titan class" card with 10% gains that has no identity and no titan drivers.

I think TPU should start adding gpu vram usage to it's reviews.

The problem is AFAIK, you can't actually measure the memory usage, only the memory allocation. Which will always differ. Games allocate as much as the engine allows and/or as much as they can. That means reserved for possible usage.

On the other hand, erasing VRAM costs. If a game never needs more than 4GBs to store in an actual time it still can show benefits having 20GBs allocated by not deleting anything from the VRAM at all, only loading in.

I don't believe anything. That's that point of my post. Instead of speculation based on rumors, I prefer to wait for facts.

Also how was Nvidia forced to cancel something that only existed in rumors?

Gigabyte leaked model names, and someone else leaked a photo from a presentation.

Both SKU's looked legit, but are likely being cancelled due to supply or market reasons.

Companies ofter make sku's in advance of any actual official product, based on past history. Not all of them are released and sku's should not be taken as fact that a product exists.

If 3090 is not a RTX Titan replacement then the 3080 is not 2080 Ti replacement either, so yeah...
3080 Ti would a hidden weapon in case 3080 meet tough competition, back then Nvidia even kept 2080 Ti Super at the ready if AMD decided to release Big Navi to challenge 2080 Ti. That didn't happen so 2080 Ti Super never left Geforce Now servers.
Always keep a back up ace in the hole when in doubt seems to be Nvidia motto.

I think they cancelled it after the rumors of RDNA 2 Cards with more VRAM than RTX 3000 series, so that NVIDIA can counter RDNA2 with a SUPER refresh with high vram than RDNA2 to steal the spotlight. Nvidia possibly decided to wait for AMD to drop their cards, then go all in to counter them later instead of now... i guess.

It is called arrogance...
They thought that AMD is nowhere near them, gone cheap with samsung, had their plan to push 2080Ti level prices with 20GB, but... AMD happened.

But AMD didn't happen to do anything yet.

if the expected amd cards will really have a new approach of using cache & ram than 16gb is not too much as may be used differently than now; if this is true than nv also will adapt if is beneficial..

i think that nv already had in their hands a big navy under dissection and due this they decided to cancel the higher vram cards ...

To folks saying that they're pulling those models because they are afraid of rdna2. NV already has massive problems keeping supply, whether they admit it or not, doubling ram capacity would mean they would have to cut into their stock of memory chips for regular sku and they can't afford that.
Sure, you can throw as many SKUs as you can, problem is you have to deliver them to clients.

The problem is Vram supply. Canceled 20GB 3080? I'm surprised they decided just now. No wonder they have canceled it. NV can't even deliver 3080 with 10GB and 3070 is delayed as well for the same reason.

Probably would interfere with the inevitable Ti and Super versions they will release for more money.
They are done obviously but you can sell a card twice this way.

Nvidia have continued to play the "unprecedented demand" song from the RTX 3000 album but if these rumours, which is admittedly a colossal "if", are correct then it's now all-but-transparent that their 8nm yields have been nothing short of catastrophic. One does not simply cancel one's long-term SKU plans (again, IF the SKUs are real..) if they have positive yield sums.

If you're nvidia, you can do anything... like cancelling a product before it's announced.

On a more serious note: I don't know why some of you blame it on poor VRAM availability when AMD is preparing a launch with 3 SKUs of 16 GB products. I personally think that Samsung's 8 nm node is to blame here - considering the fact that we haven't seen fully unlocked chips, or even heard about plans of nvidia launching one in the future. Yields must be extremely poor.

You mean Ampere? 3080/3090 use GDDR6X which is new, fancy, expensive, powerhungry and probably is not available in huge numbers.

True... Makes me wonder if releasing GDDR6 versions would make any sense. I still hold my opinion on 8 nm yields, though.

Can you list the games that support RTX and DLSS 2.0?
We can look it up as well as you, but if you’ve been paying attention the last 6 months there are recent games but also a number of games that have retroactively added RTX, DLSS. Additionally, the number of games in development that will implement this technology is growing quickly. Here’s an article which covers what we knew 2 months ago:
