IBASE Technology Inc., a leading manufacturer of industrial motherboard and embedded systems, has rolled out the MB997 ATX motherboard for 9th Gen Intel Core i7/i5/i3 and Xeon processors. The Intel C246/Q370/H310-based motherboard is designed for diverse applications, such as industrial automation, AI integrated systems, and smart retail systems.

The latest MB997 delivers high-performance computing for demanding industrial applications while providing multiple connectivity, expansion and functionality to meet customer requirements. The board supports up to 7 expansion slots including 1x PCI-E (x16), 1x PCI-E (x8)/Gen3.0, 1x PCI-E (x4), 2x PCI-E (x1), and 2x PCI, as well as 6x USB3.1, 2x USB 2.0, 2x SATA 3.0, and 6x COM ports. It can handle up to 128 GB DDR4 memory across four slots and support three independent outputs (HDMI 2.0a, DVI-D, and DisplayPort) with 4K resolution each.



The board is loaded with advanced features such as TPM (2.0) hardware-based security to ensure platform integrity, iSMART 4.0 technology that enables power saving, power on/off and power resumption, and also NVMe and CNVi interfaces that bring various performance improvements. Like all IBASE industrial motherboards, MB997 comes with strict revision control, modification control and long-term support. Operating systems supported are Win10 IoT Enterprise and Linux Ubuntu.

Drop the two PCI slots in favor of more PCIe slots, change the PCB color, add some semblance of VRM cooling, and this would probably also be a good consumer board.

Since you cannot read its not a consumer motherboard and neither is this a consumer manufacturer.

Perhaps I could've worded it better. I figured using the word "also" would convey my point that this could be a decent consumer-grade board.

I just want more consumer boards with dual GbE NICs and all the expansion slots and USB ports in the world.

Literally took my words from my mouth XD it looks like one of those old OEM socket 775 motherboards that used to blow caps all the time XD Core 2 Duo E8500 anyone??

Holy smokes, you do realize this motherboards costs more than your flagship gaming board with two onboard 1Gbit NIC, right?
Judging by the lack of visible traces this is most likely a very high layer count PCBA with excellent EMI shielding for challenging environments.
Do you even realize these VRM components are not flip chip design and are encapsulated in epoxy housing and designed to dump heat through solder pads to the PCB?
It is a purposely built motherboard, their customer base don't care if the solder mask is green or black (moreover, green solder mask is standard for a good reason as potential burn marks are more easily visible).

Some people and their ever important opinions about who should do what.

Demands of Industrial/Telecom sector are not comparable to consumer market. You can always add NIC with dual 1Gbps port to any consumer board but an industrial PC that doesnt have PCI slots and COM ports will certainly be frowned upon(depending on FF). Infact even obscure RS-485 standard is common in Industrial Control panels and Add-in cards for those still use PCI interconnects. There are a lot ISA devices in use in telecom sector to this day and backplanes(linked below) with ISA slots are in demand for their use case.

There are many industrial and medical uses where expensive equipment needs to be maintained for decades. These industrial motherboards are made because there is a real demand for it.
Of course, some enthusiasts also buy these.


BTW, you can find a lot of no-nonsense "workstation" motherboards from Supermicro, Asrock, Gigabyte etc. But they are expensive.
