The processors may be a few days away from availability, but the overclocking records are already trickling out. Darklord posted a CPU-Z validation for a Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core processor overclocked to 5898.63 MHz (or roughly 5.90 GHz), with all 16 cores and 32 threads enabled, and dual-channel memory. It appears to be a straight up multiplier overclock with the multiplier set to 59.0X, and stock base-clock. What's interesting, though, is the core voltage that this feat took—a scorching 1.656 V. Other components include an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Impact X570 motherboard, dual-channel DDR4-3600 memory, and basic GT 710 graphics. There's no word on cooling, but with this kind of voltage, an extreme method such as LN2 won't surprise us. Find the validation here.

Imagine someone telling you just 2 years ago, that AMD will totally wreck intel and nvidia across all segments, and there will be a worldwide supervirus? Back then you'd be a nutjob, tinfoil hat, wacko, etc. :D

I highly doubt that was done on air but still nice.

I was actually predicting AMD stock will explode when they were at $3 per share and Zen was rumored. They're now at $76 just over 3 years later. I didn't invest though, so I was probably not that convinced either :slap:

even if you KNEW they would do well, stocks are still a risk investment, there is always the low risk chance something could happen, like China invades Taiwan, a hurrican destroys some TSMC factories, who knows... variables like that will always make the stock market a risk investment, no matter how safe the stock.

A publicity stunt to compensate for lack of clock freq. parity. Overclocking experiences on AMD CPUs are very underwhelming (and necessary to compensate for latency issues). Either way good for them

cpu overclocking no longer matters for the most true, but ram overclocking can gain 10-20 fps in games across the board. and ram overclocking is just as fun.

The node is more determining of clock speed, and their latency issues finally seem to be over with this architecture.

The days of users overclocking, from moving physical jumpers or setting dip switches up through tuning memory timings are coming to a close I think. Just like other industries, silicon optimization has caught us and manufacturing allows for as good of tuning as we could do.

This is very impressive. To those that claim frequency doesn't matter or lambasted the bench because it's used under LN2, don't understand how difficult overclocking AMD CPUs can be. Let me see your scores.

I was convinced and had $5000 I was going to put down to purchase all AMD and instead let my friend convince me of another investment that was supposed to net more money and faster. However it didn't pan out. :banghead:

Many of the comments to me sound like people trying to make sure other people know wrestling is fake...
Obviously this is not done for any sort of practical application, this is about setting records, if that isnt your thing thats fine but...why even be here leaving comments?

Considering AMD had already released Ryzen 2xxx 2 years ago, and Intel was still struggling with highly overused Skylake arch... - no, the statement above would be highly plausible (at least for CPUs, not the virus part :p ).

If somebody told me 15 years ago that Intel was planning to release a dual core arch. (Conroe) that would completely wreck AMD and result in the whole CPU market entering a 10 year long stagnation, I'd laugh at him back then...

Or how Athlons that were regularly 1ghz lower clocked than pentium 4's but still beat the pants off them and didnt heat your whole house up in the process, fun times technology

5.9ghz is nice..was if it done air cool...
but with lng....nothing...even its 16-core cpu
It IS impressive. Show me any other 16 (or higher) core CPU that's come close to that, and then you can make the claim it's not impressive.

LN2 OC is never impressive to me.
If they don't impress you, why are you bothering to comment on it?
This sort of stuff (Extreme overclocking) takes a lot of effort and achieves cool things in tech (like here, getting 16 cores to almost 6ghz! that's insane!), so I find it impressive. It's not representative of anything anyone can do for a daily OC, but it's not supposed to be.

Clock speeds mean jack.
Actually, they mean a lot. They're literally half the equation to determine overall performance. Remember, IPC + clock speed = performance (per core). If IPC is 20% lower from cpu A to cpu B, cpu B might still be better if it has 25% more clock speed. And the same amount of cores. And the same latency. But you get my point. That's why the last few years Intel has been ahead. Luckily that's past us, and we might finally get some actual competition.

nice but not running that on air
Your point is? Of course it's not on air, no CPU in the history of anything ever has gone anywhere close to this on air. Nor on water, even! To achieve this you'd need subzero cooling, that much is obvious. The question is if it's phase change/LN2/helium, etc.

Do you guys know at time the sale start ? I need to put my order in :/
3pm GMT+1, 9AM EST. AMD has stated this in the fine print of the Far Cry 6 offer and I got it confirmed by a local etailer.
