It appears that players are having problems after reinstalling BioShock a few times. BioShock is using Sony's anti-piracy SecuROM which contacts them with your hardware specifications. SecuROM's website states "Only legitimate customers who have purchased the product are able to unlock the program which is bound to the hardware after activation. This ensures that once activated, it cannot be transferred to another PC and therefore not being mass pirated." Players are reporting after installing the game more than two times will stop the installation process. So not only is it being bounded to your current hardware. It will also lock you out after too many installs.

The pirating community doesn't seem to be having too much of a problem with "SecuROM" addon. Seems kind of pointless to try and stop the pirating community if Vista can be cracked.
Not that I support that anyone actually use a pirated version, because we sure as hell want a Bioshock 2.

Hey, you got to give them credit for trying!
The only true way to make a program pirate-proof is to do what Online games have been doing and send the Serial Number to the server each time you want to play.
The only downside is that anyone without an internet connection is not going to be able to play the game. But in the end, they would probably still gain more sales with it than without it.

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with pirating. It just gets you noticed more, and there will always be people that don't know how to crack pirated games / people who don't pirate.

Also, I don't fully believe the whole "you can only install this game two times" thing. Surely a reformat or something would solve this.

no doubt when the news of this silly anti piracy tools spreads the game sales will be effected and the game should be on discount soon after.

If they sold the games cheap and the game engine actually lasts, i.e HL2 via steam and it's various free mod games then people will happily pay for it instead of pirating them.

HL2 price via steam was a steal considering how long the CS:S modding community has managed to stay alive for, still isn't showing any signs of dying, easy to see why.

*cough* rootkits *cough*

software will be pirated till the world ends... "Good" anti-piracy methods are just an extra pain in the a** for the legal consumers... (Starforce killing drives, etc. ;)).

Everyone knowing how to copy and overwrite files is able to pirate software. This should be like 99.9993% of people using computers with specific software. But still the industry seems to survive this load of "possible pirates"...

That's a bad news for me and others knowing that we only allowed to install the game in limited times. That sucks! what kind of anti-paracy crap is that? I bought the game retails not thru Steam, and now can't even install it "too many" times? to the same system? or a future upgraded one? this is bullshezt! If they want to make their money then make the game support multi-players to force people to buy it in order to play online! This game is a good game but only supported single-player. You beat it, that's it! now you have a limited times to install it on your own "same" system. This is the last time "buying" games from 2K.

I will not be buying BioShock because I stay away from games that are a pain to install and limit you to installing it on one PC in the house. This is one area where the console games win. If I buy something for my Playstation 2, then I can play it on my system... my kids can play it on their system, and I can even take it to my buddy's house and play it there. These companies are wasting money and losing sales on PC games because most of us buying the games are not the pirates... and those doing the pirating will crack the protection anyway. So, it is only the "honest" people that are suffering.

As much as I love PC gaming, I hate the direction this over-board copy protection is going. Yet another reason why World of Warcraft is selling millions of copies... I have it installed on every PC in the house because all of us play at one time or another... and I had no problems installing it on all the PCs with the ONE version I bought. This is the way all PC games should be when it comes to installing.

Whats funny is look at Oblivion. It has no protection what so ever other then the normal cd check (needed if you do the minimum install, very easy to circumvent). The game sold records on the pc even though it had no copy protection at all. Sure it was pirated, hell I did myself. Then I went and bought it for the sake of owning a truly amazing game. Bought shivering isles and knights of the nine too.

Thats a lot more money than 2k or EA will ever get from me.

Nice marketing plans...Locking thier software on a system for a few installs. Yet single player and a hefty SGD$69.90. Wow?

They should have labelled the damn box: Only Limited Installation Numbers Allowed. I didn't know when getting it. Now I don't even dare to test uninstall and reinstall it, or should I second thought of putting it to my laptop. K, enough complaining for me.

Software Windows 10 Pro
Whats funny is look at Oblivion. It has no protection what so ever other then the normal cd check (needed if you do the minimum install, very easy to circumvent). The game sold records on the pc even though it had no copy protection at all. Sure it was pirated, hell I did myself. Then I went and bought it for the sake of owning a truly amazing game. Bought shivering isles and knights of the nine too.

Thats a lot more money than 2k or EA will ever get from me.

EXACTLY. I used a pirated Oblivion, loved it so much i went and purchased it. TBH, i take pirated games as kinda like a demo, then you move to a hassle free legit version. Copy protection HURTS sales, so people tend to want to get a piratewd version or crack so they dont have to go thru the horror of daft copy protection.

Copy protection turns people to piracy, not thru not wanting to be legit, but simply because sometimes legit games with insane protection are far more hassle than the illegal coppies :shadedshu
