Except for 1x 12TB external storage unit, I did away with all my old spinning rustbuckets a long time ago, And when nvme's get a bit larger/less $$, it will also go bye bye :)

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I don't understand the "supports drives up to 18TB" clause.

It's SATA. If the drive is a 3.5" SATA drive it'll work. When a 20TB SATA drive arrives on the market, will this thing refuse to work just because it's 2TB larger than some arbitrary limit?

My guess is when 20tb arrive, there will probably be a firmware update for them to work on this system.

Curious as to why its in that form factor...

I would rather something like this. If i needed something for one button cloning.

That's my point; They shouldn't need a firmware update!

Any future SATA drive has to meet SATA spec, and the SATA connector in the bay will accept drives conforming to the SATA spec.

Imagine selling some paper and saying that it's compatible with pens, pencils, and paintbrushes up to a certain size but incompatible with bigger marker pens.

SATA drives will work on a SATA port. That's why it's a ratified specification. If you find a SATA drive that doesn't work on a SATA port, either the drive or the port have violated spec and shouldn't be labelled as SATA.
