Hot on the heels of its massive Radeon RX 6800 series graphics card launch, AMD released the Radeon Software Adrenalin 20.11.2 WHQL drivers. These drivers add support for the newly launched Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 graphics cards. It also adds optimization of "World of Warcraft: Shadowlands." The Vulkan ICD is expanded with a new extension, "VK_KHR_fragment_shading_rate."

AMD also fixed a handful new bugs. To begin, hitching or stuttering caused by Radeon Instant Replay during fullscreen video playback has been fixed. Certain RX 500 series graphics cards not remembering fan settings after sleep has been fixed. With multiple multiple high refresh rate Radeon FreeSync displays connected to certain RX 500 series graphics cards, glitching was being noticed, which has been fixed. A case of stuttering when disabling performance metrics overlay in-game has also been fixed. Performance issues RX 5700 series cards were noticing with "Xuan-Yuan Sword VII" have been fixed. Mouse corruption in "Serious Sam 4," when changing graphics options in Vulkan API mode, has been fixed. Grab the drivers from the link below.

DOWNLOAD: AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 20.11.2 WHQL

The change-log follows.

Support For
  • Radeon RX 6800 Series
  • World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
Added Vulkan Support
  • VK_KHR_fragment_shading_rate: This extension provides the ability to change the shading rate per fragment. This extension allows for multiple pixels to be shaded via a single fragment shader invocation as opposed to the normal rate of one invocation per pixel.
Fixed Issues
  • Enabling Record Desktop and Instant Replay may cause hitching or stutter during fullscreen video playback on some system configurations.
  • Custom fan settings may not retain after waking from sleep on Radeon RX 500 series graphics products.
  • Graphical glitching may occur on Radeon RX 500 series graphics products when at idle or at desktop with multiple high refresh rate Radeon FreeSync displays connected.
  • Disabling performance metrics overlay while in game can sometimes cause frame freeze or stuttering.
  • Lower than expected performance may be experienced on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products in Xuan-Yuan Sword VII.
  • Mouse corruption may be experienced when changing graphics options to Vulkan API in Serious Sam 4.
  • Corruption may be visible on some surfaces in Far Cry Primal on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
Known Issues
  • Brightness flickering may intermittently occur in some games when Radeon FreeSync is enabled, and the game is set to use borderless fullscreen.
  • Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield V, Call of Duty : Modern Warfare and Call of Duty : Black Ops Cold War may experience intermittent application crashes with DirectX Raytracing enabled.
  • Anisotropic Filtering in Radeon Software graphics settings is not taking effect in DirexctX 9 applications on RDNA graphics products.
  • Crysis Remastered may experience corruption on character models on Radeon RX 6800 Series graphics products.
  • World of Warcraft: Shadowlands may fail to launch when DirectX 12 API is selected on Windows 7 system configurations.
  • Some games may experience stuttering when set to borderless fullscreen and an extended display is connected running the Netflix windows store application on RDNA graphics products.
  • Radeon recording and streaming features may fail to enable on AMD Radeon HD 7800 series graphics products.
  • Screen space reflections may appear with flickering corruption in Battlefield V on RDNA graphics products.
  • Modifying the HDMI Scaling slider may cause FPS to become locked to 30.
  • Performance Metrics Overlay and the Performance Tuning tab incorrectly report higher than expected idle clock speeds on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products. Performance and power consumption are not impacted by this incorrect reporting.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.

Haha driver problems strike again. Will it be RX 5700 series all over again?

I could care less about ray tracing, and they will get that sorted anyway in future. i don't want the performance hit of ray tracing yet anyway until its more optimized.

Says the one whose NV WHQL drivers had Watch Dogs 2 instantly crushing or not starting, Chrome video playback problems, and RTX 3000 problems for maybe weeks after launch. Funny guy.

Nvidia is also having crashes or bug with ray traicing. 2 months ago they fixed crashes on shadow of the tomb raider due to RT. This game is 2 years old and Nvidia has spent thousands hours to optimize their shit.

Not true, the patches were released way earlier and fixed it for users. If people have DXGI crashes its down to too high OC on their GPUs, even if its factory settings. Shadow of Tomb Raider and Deus Ex Mankind Divided are good games to check for GPU instability. Nothing to do with RT alone.

This driver is a huge mix bag in Vulkan performance. Sometimes quite faster, sometimes VERY slow.

Launching the card with ray-tracing possibly causing a crash on the major titles, I wouldn't have advertised the card with ray-tracing capability to begin with...

For me at end of the day the console games that are coming out will dictate how important the performance will be. And we don't have enough games out now to judge that other than NV RTX optimized titles. So if RT is important to you now for the little games that support it go NV right now. For the rest just wait abit to see how the rest of the year goes.

Also are these drivers WHQL?

they only show up for me when I select Recommended+Optional in the AMD control panel

I agree with this. The only reason AMD is not an option for me (their performance is impressive btw) is that their drivers CPU overhead is still absurd vs nvidia. Normally this does not matter, as games don't use the CPU that much to matter, but in Kerbal Space Program, I really feel it (the game is singlethreaded hell, and from 5700XT to RTX 2080 Super I literally got a +50% FPS differnce).

hopefully kerbal space 2 will be better optimized game. for my needs though I am sitting good for next 5+ years. this is a long term build for me.

How do you measure that? Seriously asking, out of curiosity.

Observe CPU usage when running at a high framerate, usually.

AMD's DX11 driver is so bad in this regard that you can literally use DXVK to translate the DirectX11 to Vulkan and it performs better in some cpu-bound instances, despite the emulation. This is how I used to play KSP because it just worked better.

OpenGL is even worse. But DX12 and Vulkan work pretty well.

would this apply to Zen 3 + rx 6000 series + smart access memory enabled? maybe one if not all of those variables changes the game?

AMD seems to be focusing on all future games being dx12 or vulkan so my system is pretty future proof really in that regard

Wow, that's... super-shit, actually. Beyond normal shitty drivers.

OpenGL is even worse.
That one I knew about, since it pops up in AMD's subreddit every once in a while...

Is Adrenalin 2021 expected some time soon?
Yes. In 2021 :p

No, really, I think they will do the usual cadence of releasing it somewhere in December, I think?

I don't really understand what you mean though, because as of right now my 5600x every score I see even in DX11 games shows it with very high frames beating out everything... I mean all I care about is frames and smoothness, so far my 5600x is giving me that.
