AMD's Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card debuted yesterday and in the overall test results, we saw that it runs just a few percent behind NVIDIA's direct competitor - GeForce RTX 3080. However, when it comes to overclocking and world records, the card has just set one. Popular extreme overclocker Alva Jonathan aka "LUCKY_NOOB", has managed to overclock the Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU and set a new world record with the card. Paired with LN2 cooled Ryzen 9 5950X clocked at 5.4 GHz, the graphics card was cooled by... air cooler? Indeed it was. Lucky has managed to clock the RX 6800 XT at 2650 MHz using the reference air cooler. With that system, he managed to score 47932 points in 3DMark FireStrike.

The overclocker has modified 3DMark's tessellation to presumably give the Radeon card more performance, so the score isn't valid on the official 3DMark charts. What gives the overclocker an idea of a world record is the fact that HWBOT actually accepts those numbers, which ranks it higher than the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card that scored 47725 points. Despite the modifications, it is impressive to see AMD's card rank that high, and as more overclockers are getting their hands on these cards, it is a question if we are going to see the 3 GHz barrier broken by a Radeon card.

I would have expected this with the water loop on the card. Air card and still such a result. That makes me think what the liquid cooling can achieve here.
BTW. This is again weird. It has been pointed out that the max mem OC for the 6800Xt was 2150 since it is artificially locked. It appears this dude didn't have that problem.

Maybe then he could break the record without cheats lol

Much more interested in actual, usable OCs to be honest.

This really isn't even proof of concept, it just means someone found a loophole to make a bigger number.

It seems 300w
Impessive if the 3080 is doing that without any overclocking... I was interested in seeing what the CPU would pull at that speed also, I wonder if it's anything like the Threadrippers....

Simple question. The modification of tessellation in 3D Mark is well known by experienced XOC'ers and likely applies to the 3090 scores. Why was this particular benchmark singled out? It is not against the rules on HWbot (I believe it should be, as plenty of my top benches were beaten using this trick).

I wouldn't really say this is on air because, the CPU was using LN2, while the 3090 (https://www.3dmark.com/fs/24036115) was using the same CPU except only at 4.5 GHz. which makes this "air cooled GPU submission" not actually allowed in enthusiast league, and this one would be in the Elite league on HWBOT since exotic cooling was involved.

Side note, this is the link for that submission: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/24052562 Why is it hidden? In HWBOT's rules, a verification link is required, and obviously having the score as hidden, would invalidate it.

For those of you that think this is valid and means anything.. what do you suppose the Ambient air temperature is that is being sucked through the card with LN2 what @5" away from it? Which has a boiling point of -320F

So GPUs suck air in through the back plate now?
Marvelous and astounding. /s

Is that sarcasm there? What I wanna is why do cards suck all of a sudden?
