Despite the name, Nvidia have always dominated AMD when it comes to OpenGL support. Mantle lit a fire under their arse to the point where Mantle was defeated before it even became a thang (aka Vulkan). It's no wonder AMD pimped DX12 for so long.

do future games or even recent games even use opengl though? i mean... eh. it doesn't really effect me. zen 3 and rx 6000 will brute force give me high frames in oopengl titles since they are old anyway. making the point moot. and future games amd is focusing on dx12 and vulkan which gives me futureproofing. seems like a solid deal to me

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it now, Vulkan easily supersedes OpenGL from a gaming perspective, it's far more streamlined.

I don't really understand what you mean though, because as of right now my 5600x every score I see even in DX11 games shows it with very high frames beating out everything... I mean all I care about is frames and smoothness, so far my 5600x is giving me that.
Of course, I mean, at this point we don't really care as much because we have way more CPU power than we did when DX11 launched, but it says something when it's faster to add a translation layer to your graphics process instead of running the code "natively" when everything (the original code, the translation layer and the resulting translated code) is the same architecture (x86 code) and running on the same freaking specs. That's just not supposed to happen.

do future games or even recent games even use opengl though?
The only one that comes to mind and that was really taxing was No Man's Sky (it was unbearable with single digit FPS when running it on a medium setting, on my RX 580, had to reduce everything to low), but NMS switched to Vulkan quite a while ago. In fact, I think you can't select OpenGL anymore (no point in keeping it around if performance was a lot better on AMD with Vulkan, while on Nvidia performance either remained about the same or got better).

I agree with this. The only reason AMD is not an option for me (their performance is impressive btw) is that their drivers CPU overhead is still absurd vs nvidia. Normally this does not matter, as games don't use the CPU that much to matter, but in Kerbal Space Program, I really feel it (the game is singlethreaded hell, and from 5700XT to RTX 2080 Super I literally got a +50% FPS differnce).

I've raised that topic on AMD community forum, but was lambasted.

How do you measure that? Seriously asking, out of curiosity.

There's api overhead test in 3dmark.

would this apply to Zen 3 + rx 6000 series + smart access memory enabled? maybe one if not all of those variables changes the game?

AMD seems to be focusing on all future games being dx12 or vulkan so my system is pretty future proof really in that regard

Yes it will still apply. AMD haven't touched API multithreading since DX11 came. It's been like that for 10 years!

but it doesn't matter, its so overpowered it will give me high frames anyway on DX11, while still be heavily optimized and advantage at dx12 future AAA titles. so it's a win win in my book.

As I said, it won't make a difference unless your game is already CPU bound. Most aren't.

If you play Kerbal Space Program or any game that depends on a highly performant single thread, it does. For any other use case it doesn't. It's an edge case, but it is valid.

OpenGL I can forgive. DX11 is the one they need to fix.

The worst impacted games are of course DX11 titles that use ONE core. Even with higher multithreading games, it still show problem in cpu bound scenarios.

Since there are people here with AMD parts, do your clock settings save properly when changed on this version?

I'm aware. It's unfortunate too because their hardware is excellent. I hope they someday decide to address this.

Sorry bud been working on the 6000 release driver ;)

Yes? I load a profile I’ve been using for a couple months I just copy/pasta it every driver install.

Why bother? People can't get their hands on these cards anyway... :roll:And not for the lack of trying.

Better have a fancy driver for a card that's already in my rig, than a driver for a card that's in some mofo's basement.

How about both? We could do with less "me, not him!" all around, I think.

It is remotely an edge case actually, Minecraft Java uses OpenGL as well and being heavily single-threaded.
But with minecraft java, fortunately there are tools to speed things up by a lot.

I use the Import/Export feature. Saves most of the settings in ZIP file and just import it after each update also have the custom XML file as well. So handy for adjustments or having multiple profiles.

Yeah but I’m generally not running publics, doing clean Install etc so best to just keep my Wattman file, sometimes I have to redo it as well due to driver changes.

Damn, that actually fixed it. Exported settings with adjusted clocks under 20.4.2, updated to 20.11.2, clocks wouldn't save, imported the profile and it works, all clocks set correctly. Thanks!

Yeah certain driver changes make older saved settings not work, can’t remember the last driver tho where there were changes. I usually load and save them again on a new driver just in case.
